Hi everybody, tried to check the ECU fault codes today as I have TCL and transmission probs. Shorted #1 pin in the plug to earth and turned the ignition to ON. Instead of getting a fault code indication as I expected, the ANTI LOCK and engine lights flashed rapidly (more than 9 times). Turned the ignition off then on again and it seemed as if the ECU had reset (had to tell it that it was a sedan 3.5). Correct me if I'm wrong, #1 pin is the one that is towards the rear of the plug furthest from the console. What is going on?

Well it goes from bad to worse. Now, every time I start the car the ECU has reset itself. Hopefully its just a blown fuse making it loose its memory.
Its starting to look like I will have to take it to an auto-elect and get ripped off for something I might have been able to fix myself.

You have blown one of the IOD fuses in the engine bay.
What problems are you having with your auto\TCL or is the light just on?

Hi No name, thanks for the info. I owe you one, it's fixed.
As for the original problem, my TCL switches itself off(dashlight flashes, heavy use of right foot confirms this) and the auto won't change up till 3200rpm at light pedal pressure and changes at 3700rpm at WOT. Transmission mech said there where no fault codes indicating a problem, vacuum hose to TCL is intact and TPS checks out OK.
Maybe you can tell me which pin must be shorted to get the error codes, cause the one I used wasn't it.

I dont know from memory. Would need the workshop manual.
If the mechanic said there was no codes before then why are you checking for one now?

Cause the engine light keeps coming on and there is definately something wrong, plus I don't entirely trust the mechanic.
