Still have one pushing on 230,000kms, no intention of selling up. Prefer the design more over the 3rd gens, to be completely honest.

I've moved on to the 3rd gen world, but the TS Wagon's still in the garage.
Took it for a drive the other day and I still enjoyed driving it. The doof of subs, nice exhaust and feel of the Manual helped. (although it would've been better without the slipping clutch :doubt:).

What about those who own a 3G but don't bag 2G's ?

I owned a 2ND gen and a 3RD gen, sold the 3RD gen so now the 2ND gen only remains.
It's bullet proof, and even if I flog it I still get at worst I get 550 kays of 60 litres :D

ill replace mine with something else when its done the 2nd motor im getting in. At this stage shes got just shy of 200,000 and just did the first cam seal, the stem seals are a given though.

Itll be gone when crashed or it chews the second engine. Ive got another car now so this one wont see so many kays in the future (its our only ride at the moment)

Yeah still got it, not going anywhere soon, still running great *touch wood*!

Its actually become just mums car again now, I've got the Verada for myself :P The only thing I can really knock on the TR is the fuel economy, it really should get better than the 450 or so it gets out of a tank now, especially when my 3.5L 6 cylinder is getting at least 100km more per tank :P Good ol Astrons!

I've got special requirements so I can't imagine owning any other vehicle than a Magna wagon. I like the look of the 2nd gens best so it's classic car ownership for me.

mines still going strong - needs a radiator repaired and a new thermo fan switch, but its still plugging away. She's now done 129,000 kms since i bought it at 91,000 about 2 years ago. Overall, i've been very happy and she has barely cost me anything aside from the usual wear and tear parts to keep her on the road.
I'll probably be looking to upgrade to a TJ either nowish or at the end of the year, while i can still get some money for my car.

Love the TS, if only it had a bit more grunt, but that's a 4 cyl for you. Bought it 3 years ago at 206,000kms and she's just ticked over 250,000. Hoping to get another 50,000kms out of her , could be wishful thinking.

Mines coming close to 250,000km, had it almost 10 years, that's it in the sig
Spent a couple of grand on it last year, rebuilt engine, clutch, half shafts, runs beautifully.
No intention of ever getting rid of it, daughter will get her license in a couple of years and planning to give it to her then, but before that will upgrade the brakes to twin pots as a safety measure for an inexperienced driver

The twin pots do help, although if the car does not have ABS, one of those basic driver training courses will help alot. I did one on the first month of my p's and it really helps you control a car not equipped with ABS.

Work sent me to a drive to live course a couple of weeks back, but had to use the works commodore, ABS, traction control etc, my TS doesn't have that but they made me use their car.
Can highly recommend these courses and will pay for my daughter to go when she gets her license, I would consider myself an experienced driver but soon found out I'm a novice when it comes to an emergency, just like 99% of us on the road I suppose

Yeah, i was a novice and still am but was good to learn stuff.
One thing i noticed though, i was the only car there without ABS and i managed to stop quicker (in a straight line) then everyone else. (with ABS)

I love the TS. it badly needs the stem seals replaced, the cvs are rooted, the front disks are warped badly and the paint is starting to fade on the bonnet and boot. but i love her

and those courses are awesome. i have done many of them. i have done defencive driving, advanced driving, 4x4 driving and a day on the track with some saftey mob. i did them in my old lancer (apart from the 4x4 one..tho that could have been interesting :bowrofl: ), and would like to do them in the magna. highly recomend them, especially if you can get them through work or insurance companys

I got a KS Verada wagon, its 1996 and 173,000km, and the exterior and paint is absolutely mint, so its one of the better ones out there, but no crazy mods, apart from the ones listed in my sig.

engine is goin well, but makes a little bit of noise and startup, not bad, but it could be quiter, and I havent quite figure it out yet, but at high rpm when warm, the engine can make a ticking/lifter sound, but sometimes it doesnt which is a bit strange. Im thinking perhaps when the oil get too warm it thins out and makes the lifter noise. Might try get this fixed.

Howdy all
Still got the second gen, and even after 246,000km she is running like a dream now that all the belts and pullies have been replaced. Its my first car that I actually bought (not given to me by the parents) and she has treated me well from day one. It will be a sad day when she dies and is replaced but thats a long way off yet

my grandfather has a 4cyl TS with 160,000kms.. so there is one in the family

He just spent a small fortune on it - timing belt, new head, head gasket, new exhaust, 4 new tyres, 4 new shocks, new CV joints/boots - had a bad rattle in it and he got everything replaced pretty much..

In all around $2500 worth

Its in as new condition too paint and interior wise..

will see his driving days out..

its a bit heavy on fuel tho  ???

Ollie

I was a little concerned about losing some power but it's actually not to bad. I found the gear changes were much smoother (auto of course) 'cos of the way gas burns.

With regards to saving money, I reckon it definitely does. I can do a trip from Ballarat to Wodonga and back, including some city driving, which is overall about 850kms and it costs about $60.

Only other thing is that you'll lose some boot space 'cos the tank sits in the spare wheel well for wagons and in the far end of the boot for sedans. If you can deal with losing some of that space then you can probably handle it.

It cost me $2,700 for the who lot to be installed but that get's cut down to $700 with the $2,000 rebate the government's got going at the moment. Only problem is that you've gotta find the money to pay the whole lot and then you get the rebate.

I reckon mine has already payed itself off and I only got it put in last June, I think.

Bought my 95 TS back in what july. done bout 12000km since then taking the old fella upto a grand total of 262000ish. runs well apart from the shudder when idling that is common as, also the brakes are trying to die but hey who need brakes anyway..., and also the car is regularly too hot inside to run the cd player... it just stops, but i can live with that i guess.

assuming it lasts that long i will be keeping her till 2012 when i finish Uni and then be buying... a 380 (plan could change however)

I still have the TR - 295,000K's. Avoid driving it, drive the parents car alot more. TR gets me to work and the station and to mates houses.

Over it, but still poor whilst at Uni; Looking at a Honda soon, something more sporty.

I cannot deny the fact this car had made me alot of money (going to work) and done some good things for me, some good memories.

Ollie
To be honest, there is very little difference in performance that I could find. I base most of my performance on the hill climb from Glen Osmond to Crafers in the Adelaide hills  This climb is limited to 100km/h and I lock overdrive Off and set the cruise for 95 Km/h, I cruise up there nice and easy with the ability to accelerate when I need it. I had it fitted with the donut tank in the spare wheel hole, this limits capacity to 52ltr useable or around 350km, city / hill commuting. Cause of the donut tank, it was a total of $2800-00, if I went for a normal in car tank, it would have had 65 ltr and cost $2400-00. After Govt rebate of $2000-00, ....well you can see it was not much :)
I am looking to do a longer trip in April, where I know the economy will be much better.

FYI, we now have three magna wagons here, all on lpg. An 87 TN GLX with carby, gets around 400 km to 65 ltr on commuting and 580 on trips at 100km/h. This one does suffer performance issues due to carby. The other one is an 89 TN elite injected with 100ltr tank. no figures on it yet as daughter wants work done on it first, but as yet it like mine performs without any visible loss in power.
Hope this info helps, I knjow I like fuelling up for half the cost of petrol, but you do have poorer economy. I think I worked mine out to around 14ltr per 100 km
Cheers :P

Just clicked over 210,000 k's, compression down a bit on No. 2 but goes ok as a daily driver -
when I can stop people running into it!
See my previous post about prettying up with some clay bar, then had a DH in a tray top
back into the rear door. A week prior to that some kind soul in a carpark scraped the front
bumper, guard and parking light. 2 weeks before that, again in a carpark copped a towbar in
the rear bumper.
At least I got the guy who ran into the door, and got some bucks from him so will now see if
my panel beating skills are up to scratch!
All in all though, apart from a not too desireable auto, they are a pretty good everyday
commuter even if a bit thirsty - around 13l per 100k's running around town. I believe the manuals are heaps better.
