ok, ive been searching around hear for ages and just cant find exactly what im after, ive got some new speakers (6*9's for the rear and 6" for the front) for the vrx and I was looking @ installing them sometime soon, im familiar with all the technical bits like wiring and all that but im not formiluar with how to get 2 the speakers...how do I get to the ones in the rear? do i just pop off the grill or get to them via the boot? and with the front ones in the door, can i ply open the gril bit or do i have 2 remove the door trim? if so, is the a guide around here explaining how to do so?

thanks very much for your time peoples.

front door trims have to come off cos the speaker grill is screwed in from behind.
remove the door handle sorround ie 1 screw and the window winder ie sir clip
start to pri the door trin from the bottom then up the sides to the top. when this is done you should be able to just lift the door trim up and out of the window seal
as for the rear speakers all i know is that you need spaces for the 6x9s as they sit to low and hit the boot springs.

sorry vrx should have power windows not sure on how to remove them!

Easy enough, do it before everything else. The switch panels just pop out, but sometimes require quite a bit of force. Use a hard peice of plastic to lever them up, to avoid damaging them. I used a random plastic lid i had kickin' round.

Should've posted up earlier mate, I had mine pulled apart tonight, could have taken some pics and shown you!

Anywho, its like whats said above, remove the screw in the air con hole in the door, the screw in the bottom of the door grip section, and the screw in the door handle surround, and slide the surround out from around the handle. Then pop out the half a dozen clips using a flat end screw driver around the trim (covered with a cloth so it doesn't scratch), then push the trim up and slide off. Before you pull it away you have to disconnect the loom for the power windows (just push in on the tab and slide out, and any courtesy lights you may have.

From there its just a matter of unscrewing you stock speakers and doing the wiring, then to refit do the reverse of the above!

...how do I get to the ones in the rear? do i just pop off the grill or get to them via the boot?

I've never had the rear deck apart in mine, but if it's anything like the Commodores and Ford then I'd imagine that the cover for the rear deck comes off and you get to the speakers from the top, but the "grilles" form part of the deck itself so shouldn't be removed to access speakers. To do this I believe you would take out the back seat, there are studs behind the top of the seat holding the front of the rear deck in place, remove these. Then you have to remove the child restraint(s) from the deck and if you only have one restraint then there will be 2 other plastic studs in the top of the deck you have to remove. the whole cover should then slip off toward the front of the car (You may or may not have to unbolt the centre seatbelt if it runs through the deck cover, this will allow you to remove the belt from the guide hole in the deck). Then there should be screws holding the speaker into the steel base. I was under the impression that 6 X 9's should fit straight in the original holes......but I don't mind being corrected if someone knows better than me, as I said this is the procedure for Commodores and Falcons lol

Hope you have a really small screwdriver, because the rear screws have bugger all clearance room on the speakers.

The speaker covers have 3 nuts that need undoing from inside the boot, and a little tab that slides under the carpet in the car, so undo the nuts, and it pretty much lifts out. Speakers are much the same, undo the screws holding them in, and lift the speakers out.

Reverse to put it all back together.

Failing a small screwdriver, a screwdriver bit from a drill and a pair of pliers will work. Hell stuffing around tho, was well worth $5 for a short screwdriver after half hour of farta**ing around.

thanks for the help guys! I've installed the front speakers and have worked out how to do the rear speakers, which I'll get around to sometime this week.

Cheers!
