View Full Version : Fog light wiring

I've got my foglights running through a switch with an indicator LED (switch is at the bottom of this page (http://www.narva.com.au/Switches_Rocker_2.html)).

They are wired to only come on when the parking lights are also on.

My problem (it isn't a big one) is that the switch's LED won't come on (however it does come on if the foglight wire is detached from the switch)

But with both LED and switch "acc" terminal going to ground the LED doesn't work.

I suspect its because the switch is on the down side of the relay coil, but I'm not really wanting to run 3 times as much wire to rig it up! (the relay is up front near the battery).

Can you think of any cleverness that would convince the LED to come on? Like a small load on the "acc" wire, or a capacitor somewhere?

Wiring diagram attached - apologies for incorrect usage... it's 20 years since I drew these at uni!

You need to put the switch on the "live" side of the relay.

So when you turn the switch on there is s feed to the relay and the switch LED also has a +ve feed.

I have reworked your sketch.

Thanks.

Iv'e been playing around since I posted. With a 3W test probe bulb between the "acc" outlet and earth the LED works as advertised, though fairly dimly.

So by increasing the value of the resistance I should be able to get it right. Then I can just hardwire in the right resistor.

A 62 Ω resistor on the "acc" to earth wire has done the trick. So I didn't have to run another wire through the firewall again :-)
