Hi Guys,

Thought I would share my story. A rear wheel noise started to occur a couple of weeks ago. O.K. So I thought it was the Wheel Bearings as they were replaced about 60,000kms ago, re-greased now and then. Bought new sets for both sides (inner & outer). Replaced them. Should be O.K. now. Took it for a test drive and after about 10k's noise started again. Next day, removed the bearings on one side first and discovered a crack in the rear of the hub bearing housing. Problem solved. Noise occured when the hub heated-up thus expanding the hub crack. Now need new hub!

yes I have heard and seen that on rear rotors

usually from being machined below min thickness

not a common fault but usually picked up at servicing

did you see the crack when you fitted the bearings yourself

Yes, When I was fitting the bearings. Picked up a secondhand Hub for $40 VGC. No noise now.

in about 100 km

undo the nut and retorque it

for safety

there have been a few problems
with the hub nuts and bearings on the first gen wagons
