i bought a pod adaptor from super crap auto and now my car dies when i try to accelar8 should i disconnect my battery will that help? i will try it anyway but what els could it be:nuts:
remove said pod adaptor and pod filter..
If you want/need a pod, get the proper K&N pod that doesn't play havoc with the MAF sensor. Some people have gotten lucky with a generic pod and adapter, others have exactly the same problem your having.

the pod adapter wouldn't make you car die even if it was leaking it wouldn't make it die i say its something a little more serious

It wont... But, knock urself out kid. :P
Remove the plastic kick panel, and talk to the ECU (with ignition key 'ON'). Explain the situation to it, and how you fitted a pod filter and you need it to run propperly. Then it'll know how to adjust itself. Make sure to use the words "please", and "thank you".

Hey dude - In the mean time just refit the standard panel air filter. I doubt your fitment of the pod and adaptor has caused any damage and its more likely to be a case of the pod wreaking havok with the MAF Sensor. That is unless you removed the MAF sensor all together which would explain perfectly why it doesn't work.
RPW in perth have the correct pod filter (oval type) and adaptor for your car. Have a browse of their website. Its $150+ Postage and packaging.

As i already mentioned, make sure the wiring plug is back on the air flow sensor. If its all lookin ok, then yeah refit the stock airbox.

1. You only bought ONE pod filter, remember, you need TWO pod filters.
2. You forgot to Hollow out your MAF sensor.

And what ever you do, don't forget the hubcap spinners, must be 14" with orange background, 5" cannon with LED tip, HOT4s stickers, clear taillights with carbon fibre and try and graft on an EVO 3 body kit if you can. Should be good for 450-500FWkW, depending on the colour of the LEDs and size of the stickers...:bowrofl:
But seriously, get a K&N, oval pod or panel, depending on taste, but remember if you use a pod it must be shielded in most of Australia.

Has your car been thrashed?
My last car had this problem
Maybe if it's not the pod it could be a burnt out valve, so your losing compression.
Or maybe a shi**y fuel pump.
Clogged injectors
First things first, replace the intake to stock and see if that fixes the problem. If not maybe start looking at other part.

Since you already installed your pod,
1. check your MAF connection,
2. disconnect your battery to reset the ECU,
3. reconnect again the battery,
4. start your engine, rev and test drive.
if the problem persist, return the stock filter and repeat 2-4.
if the problem is still there, then it must be something else.

He bought the wrong one. The opening of the adaptor that attaches to the maf is too small restricting air flow. Take it back. Go to Repco they sell the correct one which does not restrict the airflow.

but yeh mate it sounds like your something to do with the maf, does it idle ok?

Finally some serious advice.
Hollowing out your MAF is what most people overlook. It's filled with a honeycomb sort of thing that causes heaps of restriction, gouge it all out with a screwdriver and the pod will work fine.

If its correct that there are other threads about this topic, why didnt someone else just post that first up rather than hijack the thread making immature comments. If some of you want to amuse yourselves with stupid comments that arent funny, PM each other & leave this forum to people who want to learn about their cars from other members that may have experienced the same problems.

it depends on how you mounted it, if its just sitting in the engine bay it would be sucking hot air and therefore losing power, either look at mounting it in a box and run ducting to suck up cool air from the bumper etc or a heatshield to at least repell some of the heat from the pod. I hope it isnt one of the 35 dollar ones because the chrome button in the middle is known to come off and get sucked into your intake at high rpm. Had it happen to a customers car and ended up totalling his motor from it.

I know the issue has been adressed, but here's my $0.02 worth of info/advice.
I have a TR 2.6 4cyl and decided to go down the path of the pod filter, rather than a panel.
The pod filter project has come to a standstill for now (haven't done any CAI yet), but this is what i went with/have done so far.
K&N OVAL pod filter, the one designed for the mitsubishi MAF sensor. $150ish from Melbourne RPW dealer.
Barry's fuel rail kit. $35ish, i think.
One roll of thermo-wrap (space junk that looks like aluminium foil stuck to duct tape lol ). $50ish
Aluminium plugs to replace intake resonators. I machined them up myself, so cost me $0, only about 15-30 mins in front of a lathe.
Oil breather filter. about $15.
Breather filter mount $0, took me about 30 mins on lathe/mill.
I started by removing the air box and intake pipe up to the throttle body.
Then I removed the resonators fron the intake pipe (little empty black boxes that just take up sace, i'm sure they are there for a reason, but i took them off so i could wrap the intake) and put my little plugs in the holes where the resonators were and secured them with the original clamps. And the hose which comes from the rocker cover, i put a co**** threaded bolt in here which i cut to correct length and wrapped with some thread tape.
Next i wrapped the pipe up with my space junk duct tape looking heat shielding wrap, this went between throttle body and MAF sensor.
Bolted up pod adaptor plate and secured pod with it's giant hose clamp.
Put pipe back on throttle body (after checking throttly body/plenum chamber for any buildup of oil and stuff) and secure pod filter with the bracket included.
and last, i cut a length of fuel hose and hose clamped it to the rocker cover breather thing, mounted the small breather filter on the front of the rocker cover and ran the fuel hose into it.
Oh, and unbolted the fuel rail, swapped the plastic mounts with Barry's aluninium ones and bolted it back up.
Pretty easy.
I did this a few months ago now and have not had a problem with it.
Power-wise i'm happy because i didn't really expect any gains, but mid-high range torque has improved. There is a more noticable 'power band' between about 3000-4500 RPM, low down torque i think has suffered a bit though. maybe a set of extractors would help there?
The pod Vs panel debate will be forever raging, but it's up to you what you do with your car.
Panel filter is a VERY simple job of swapping a filter element.
Pod is a lot more messing around, but if you like playing with your car and are prepared to make a few custom bits and pieces, then a pod filter may be for you.
besides, it looks mean as hell and makes a cool whooshing sound when you rev your engine (put your ears next to your pod and give it a few sharp revs using the throttle body. my mate just about **** his pants when he heard it "what the **** was that noise?" :D )
Custom shielded pod box with CAI is on the to-do list, but for now i'm considering buying a TR elite and transplanting my engine/gearbox/etc.
end of rant, sorry
