Hey all!
At the moment, Im on the hunt for rims, and im at a cross roads.
I REALLY love the Gram Lights T57-RC, but there are two roads i can go down;
-18*8.5" rim w/ Kumho Ku31 245/40 rubber
OR
-18*7.5" rim w/ Kumho ku31 235/45 Rubber
What do you guys think would be a good package for the street? Would the 235/45 offer too much sidewall flex? Ill be putting some good rubber on my Stock enkeis for track days...

can't you get 235/40 ?
they will be much cheaper as they are commonly used

I could... But I want to try and get the rolling diameter right or if not, larger. 235/40 is smaller then stock rolling diameter..Gotta fill out those ralliart guards!!!
That is my reasons for tire size...
245/40 is spot on
235/45 is about 11mm taller then stock
235/40 is about 13mm smaller then stock

245 will kinda make it fat from the back lol
well when i had the magna and tried wheels on i test fitted a 7" rims with 235 and coz i wanted dish on a 7" wide rim it wasnt big enough and it looked skinny from that back so i got 8.5" wide with 235 (not much different tyre wise but i gots the dish YAY
but that was me lol im just guessing 245 will offer you better grip coz it is a tiny tad wider and the 8,5" wheel will fill it nicely and from what you posted that 245/40 is spot on why would youy want you tyre wall to be taller then stock?? that will just give you more sidewall flex

I do know what you mean... I had 245/40 R18 on my VRX... and it looked so fat/hot... loved the look of it!
LOL!! Just really worried about tires on the one cause its so low, and the ralliart guargs seem fatter...

Hey I'm looking at this at the mo too. I've hit Bridgestone's site, where they give measurements and load ratings (don't forget you have to match this to stock to be leagl) for all their tyres.
Their calcs show:
- stock 215/60/16 (what I have) at 664mm load 95
- 235/40/18 at 645mm load 98
- 235/45/18 at 669mm load 96
- 245/45/18 at 677 load 96
They don't do a 245/40/18 (neither do Goodyear). But Falken have one at 645mm, load 97.
So in an 18 the ideal match is 245/45/18.....

Opps. Left off part of my logic  Whilst the 235/45/18 is the pefect size match, only Bridestone do it in the brands I am looking at (Bridgestone RE050A, Goodyear F1, Falken 452). Whereas they all do a 245/45/18. And the 13mm diff to stock in the 245/45 is both legal and will have no noticeable effect on gearing. In the end, I guess I didn't want to get locked into an unsual size I was gunna have trouble getting later on or being locked into just one brand.

I think you will find mate that 235/45 is actually 13mm larger... not 245/45..
245/40 is PERFECT, and falken do make it in the fk452... good tire! I had 245/40's in the falken fk451... LOVED them...
Cheers,
Alex

Well that's not what Bridgestone's site says (hit "sizes for this pattern" when you open the page) http://www.bridgestone.com.au/tyres/treads/re050a.aspx

Try this... Its REALLY good.

Yeah, the wheelsmaster one is very cool. What really interested me about that was what happens when you change wheel width from 8 to 9 inches - you get another 20mm of contact patch. That in itself is no surprise, but what does suurprise me is that Bridgestone and Pirelli reckon the "optimum" rim width for a 245 is 8", and yet you only end up with a 200mm contact patch versus over 220 for a 9" rim.

Wanna keep it NSW legal?
One inch wider rim from widest optional rim (in tyre placard)
Overall diameter needs to stay within the tolerance of + - 15 mm from original size.
FWD not allowed more than 1" wider rims - not even with "Engineers Certificate", cos the proper engineers disallow it.
Illegal to fit 235 to 7" rim.
And don't forget the Load Rate, most Magnas 94, some even 95 (like mine).
Sad, but true stuff.
If u don't care about regs and laws, buy what ever u want. But don't cry when u get defected or insurance claims goes boomerang.... :)

the 245/40 seems to me to be the best option! and u will still get some pretty good rubber.. be carefull though unless you want to sand back the inner piece of the flares as I think you will find the backs will scrub.
I wish I could put 245's back on my ralliart, however my offset+low ride heigh make this near impossible on the fronts.

Yeah I know what you mean!!
My car is lowered 1.5" and im looking at getting a 18*8.5" rim with a +45 offset and 245/40 tires...
Im just worried about clearence...:doubt:

In talking to Cummins about offsets (he is running 245's on a lowered Ralliart) he said I should look for an offset of 40 to avoid rubbing or the need to roll the guards with a 245...
Tonba

So you think I should be safe with the offset of +45 as it should sit futher in the guards?

I would presume so..
worst case scenario is it rubbs a little bit and you will need to sand back the inside of the flare as this it was scrubbs as it extends about an inch inside the guard.

Yeah, Im hearing ya!! *rolls eyes*
Stupid flairs... you think they would have done body work as per the EVO's to pump out the guards on the ralliart magna... give it a much more finished/tough stance...

Go and try a set on, nothing like actually checking...plus you never really know how good a wheel is gonna look 'til u've tried it on...
oh...and i'd check the clearance on the rear suspension knuckle if you want to run +45’s cos I think it might be pretty close…

3~5mm Spacer? :doubt:

so is there anything wrong with running 235/40 18 on 18x8 rims?
Anyone know anything about Regal Premium Comfort?
I am told they are made (in that size anyway) in the south pacific tyre factory using an old dunlop pattern, but all I can find is south african related.
