Guys,
Other than play 6 discs what else does the "Premium Audio" units from the L & W ranges have going for them?
To me they seem pretty basic. Are they Mp3 disc compatible?
Who made them for MMAL?
And finally if the unit is replaces, do the steering wheel controls function with any other makes?

They are not mp3 compatible. I think they were made by Audiovox. They don't sound too bad for a factory deck.

yeah most major brands you can buy adaptors so you can still use the steering wheel controls with them aka alpine kenwood jvc etc

Okay, then I have a degree of comfort in their performance if they are Fujitsu-ten.
They make some good stuff.
Finally, any easy way to connect an i-pod? That would be my main reason for giving it the flick and opting for a single din unit and powered compartment.

Why not replace it with a double DIN?
I got a single DIN and have regretted it since.. will be getting double DIN DVD touch screen in a few weeks :)

Yeah single dins in double din dashes look weird. Definitely go double-din.

Def no need for cassette, so what are some of the options the are double DIN?
Are there any affordable screen types similar looking to the failed eurovox units used in the 2005 pajero's and VRX outlanders?

Are there any double din headunits (not including screens) which have a detach face?

thats a bigass face to detach!
if you bought an eclipse deck, then you have the security onboard (they take deck, its useless once they dont have the key cd/sd card

Doesn't help with the broken window or damaged dash though

There's a new unit coming out around March/April AXV810, that has a 7" touch screen that is detachable, prob see it on the shelf for about $1099

Oh how I long for conservative looking car sound.
Seems like car sound and all in one home units were designed by the same dudes with a need for busy and in the main, tacky looking panels.
Any thoughts, or am I just being too Gen X ?

When i bought my KH Verada, he changed my original head unit and put two head units in one 7" Sony DVD touch screen which is single din and another sony xplod head unit. Stupid thing is here he wired it so it every thing runs off the crappy head unit. Now there's tonnes of wiring behind the head unit which is painful to sort out. BUT he still gave me the original head unit for nuthin, and he upgraded the 6X9's with kickers. :)
Im pretty sure Pioneer does double din DVD players, but not so sure on there quality.

I think I will go with one of the JVC (not DVD) ones... they don't look too blingy.
