im just wonering what the thin black wire in the RCA cord is for. ive heard "its the remote wire" and "its the earth wire" but am wondering why RCA's need an earth in the first place.:nuts: my rational is that the black wire is wrapped around the entire length of the RCA, current is passed through it to reduce interfference. Just like in LAN cables.

and the ends of this thin black wire have 'o' ring things,

why do some rca's have that thin wire is because dj's when they use rca's like for turntable's they need a earth or u get a humming sound thro the line thats why it's there so have them other's don't

In a car, it is a remote wire, not an earth. Most amps these days need an electrical signal before they will switch on, this signal is sent through a remote wire. Now, since the RCA cables go from the head unit to the amplifier, a lot of the manufacturers included this remote wire, rather than having to run a seperate wire.
