View Full Version : Loss of power due to ECU reset?

I just upgraded my 8 gauge wire to 4 gauge wire. i connected the the battery back up and turn the ignition into the ON posistion, i noticed a fast paced ticking sound coming from the engine that lasted about 1.5 seconds, which i assumed was the ECU. I went for a drive down to autobahn to get the final part. the car feels sluggish compared to how it used to feel and the exhaust is noticeably quieter, i didnt have my speakers connected and i still could barely hear it. while going around 60 km/h i put my foot down and the car was slow to react.
Is this normal?
The ticking sound?
Will the ECU have to re-learn that im a hoon and need teh power?
if so, how long would it take to learn?

you've reset the ECU
so you need to let the car idle for about 10mins so it learns the correct place to idle
and the gearbox will need to learn your driving style
gearbox will take acouple of days of casual driving

The ticking sound you're hearing is the engine bay relays clicking open and closed; nothing to worry about.

i let it idle for about 2 minutes, will i have to reset it again, or will it learn to idle every time i stop at lights ect?

It is closed loop. It uses a PID controller and calculates the required idle stepper position probably 300 times a second. It does not need to learn to idle.

It amazes me that people still think this....

I know different model, but my 2nd gen takes about 30mins and about 40 stops at traffic lights before it stops stalling.

And check that the battery terminals are tight and have a clean connection. you can get the clikcking with it arcing out, with a bad connection.

That means your base idle adjustment isn't set correct Trotty.

Thers nothing wrong with the idle. I can reset the computer and start the car normally with noproblems... Just when comming to a stop in drive it will stall a few times, before it fixes itself.
