Depending on how much money you want to throw at it, there are quite a few options open to you.
- Slotted rotors with premium pads. The cheapest upgrade, and you'll retain the stock calipers. Slotted rotors constantly reface the pads, denying them the opportunity to glaze, which will give you poor braking. They do create quite a lot of dust though, depending on the pad you use.
- Twin piston front calipers. Calipers from the Ralliart Magna, any AWD Magna, or 380 will fit. They're quite good, they use a 294mmx26mm (Ralliart and AWD) or 296mmx28mm rotor (380), and comparatively aren't too expensive. You will need to buy new rotors and pads however, and the whole package will end up around the $1000 mark.
- Twin piston calipers with 320mm rotors. This kit is adapted from the C6 Corvette, and will run around the $1700 mark. Hoppers Stoppers makes this kit up, which is apparently a good improvement over the standard twin piston upgrade.
- 4 piston Brembo calipers. Lots of stopping power, with a price tag to suit.

ive currently got the front twin pistons off a 380 294mm dba 4000 rotors bendix ultimates and braided lines, i brought them as a kit from megatron when he did a group buy all up it cost me just over 1k installed, massive braking improvement i was finding with the standard single pistons that i was starting to get fade after 2-3 hard brakes and at one point i had them where the car wouldnt pull up (through the walcha to port macquarie range) however with the new brakes i havent seen any brake fade as of yet, firmer pedal feel and when you stomp on the pedal the eyeballs hit the windscreen.:bowrofl: Theres a few threads in the FS section for twin piston fronts and rotors

Well i rear ended a commadore when he cut me off because my brakes are ****e house, so i need an upgrade, but i want 4 piston or more for wank value:drama: :tantrum:

Brakes aren't the only limiting factor in a crash mate... Watch your surroundings, don't follow too close, if someone cuts you off, back it up, play it safe.
Slotted rotors and some top notch pads are for you.

just bear in mind if you go brembo's or eqiv you will have to change your rims to accept the calipers because of there size

What size rims and what dollar mark are we talking about?

Dont expect any change from 5 grand.

Ok. Will they fit behind 18's? Or will I need 19's etc?

for brembo's pretty sure need 18's with a huge offset around 60+ from memory the twin piston upgrades aka the ralliart/380 calipers fit behind the original 16 inch rim and hopper stopper would be 18 as well due to rotor size

there is a heap of brake up grades going on atm in the forum, wookies organising the rotors and YLD35L is doing the calipers. thats what im looking at, might make my brakes look bigger than can lids.
Id imagine our rears would be the same as sedans

I'm doing this right now. The front rotors are actually 330X32. The $1,700 includes braided hoses. For rear's I am using Ralliart calipers and discs, also with braided hoses.
Bottom line is, anything's possible - It's just a question of what your budget is....

Just remember guys, if you go too extreme with the calipers, you will need to engineer a new master cylinder as well.
Twin piston off 380 etc would be fine, brembo at a pinch, any thing more then do both ends

yeah ive got the 380 brakes atm just thinking out loud, lol and yeah a few dozen is more like it.
BTW: rang about the FPR brad waiting on a phonecall back

I was thinking 4 pots both front and rear. Not sure about brand (some people feel differently about brands) but I want stopping power. And something that looks nice would be good.

just remember 4 pistons wont give you more stopping power they just handle heat better and hence less fade. 380/awd front brake upgrade and the ralliart rear will suffice easily on the street

atm ive got slotted rotors all round with stock calipers and just normal ol' pads.
i find the stopping power isn't much better from stock, and the break dust SUCKS!!
slotted look cool but.
i like the idea of twin calipers, with cross drills all round. (nothing like the look of some cross drilled). but $1000 for breaks is a bit excessive for me atm.
can anybody tell me what the benifits of braided lines are?

firmer pedal feel as the rubber cannot expand as the pressure is put on via the master cylinder. and imho 1k for decent brakes is an amount that everyone should do espically if they even think about towing/going fast etc. And yes i have dba4000's make everything nice and dusty but oh well thats why god invented car wash :bowrofl:

Yes, it's not the number of pistons that give the stopping power. It's the fact that more pistons allows a longer brake pad, giving you more pad area ("swept area") grabbing the disc.
Braided hoses. I did these way back in 84 on my Brock HO Group 3. Girlock Racing had to custom make them and there was a big argument at rego about legality (my how things have changed now). But the thing I noticed instantly was a much much firmer brake pedal. Looking forward to fitting the braided lines that will come with my Hoppers kit :)

I was advised when I was looking at Slotted rotors for my car that the Slotted rotors warp easily as they are weaker in extreme heat.
I find the brakes fine, my advice is adjust the style of driving.

never heard of slotted rotors warping easily, takes quite a bit of heat to warp a rotor with rapid cooldown (like hammering them around a track then hitting them with a hose straight after) if your worried about warpage get dba4000's a lot of the guys who do trackwork here use them and they never have had them warp. Hell ive had mine smoking not long ago and are still fine

It is a fact that the slotted rotors do warp more easily.
The slots are not so much for cooling the slots clean the dust off the pads more than they do anything else
The x drilled rotors also tend to crack on the outer holes.
If you have the correct brake / pad / rotor / caliper set up, you should get better braking to a small degree but much more tollerence to heat
Twin pots on the rears are about as helpful for a street car as a hoover with a long power cord for a super charger.
most of your braking (not breaking) is done from the front.
