Anyone got any experience replacing wheel studs? One of the studs on my other car (camry hatchback) has broken off and another looks like its about to break also.
Im going to have to give them all a good treatment with CRC or whatever to prevent the other ones from breaking off so i can get the wheel off, but i need to be able to replace the broken stud and sice its on the front wheel, apparently i need to remove the caliper and disc to get it out. Any tips?

after the caliper is out of the way

you take off the hub to get at the broken studs

undo CV outer nut and use levers to take off the hub with the studs

proper way is to remove the whole stub axle and use a press

once seperated
hammer out the broken ones

then hammer the new ones back in with the spline of each stud lined up

rule is you replace all 5 studs with new or 4 if the hub has 4

Can't stress this enough! If you've driven around with just the 4 chances are you've weakened them/slightly damaged them. Happened to my car.

Some can be done with the hub still on the car... if theres enough clearance behind it to get the stud out.

Remove the brake assembly.. then hit the stud out.

Put new stud in (coated in crc) and use the new wheel nut to pull the stud back into the hub.

Don't hit the stud to get it out if the hub is on the car.
You will damage the surface of the wheel bearings.

Correct way is to push out with a press, or use a hammer ONLY if the hub is off the car and you are sure that you are not going to damage any of the machined mating surfaces
