Hey guys,

My nephew has an oil leak coming from his rocker cover oil cap on his 3lt TS Magna, change it I hear every one yell Laughing I wish it was that easy and is this a common problem?

Well I'll tell you what's happened so far, he was told the oil dripping from under the car was coming from a camshaft seal and crankcase seal and rocker covers.

He calls me after this was done and says its still leaking oil (i didn't do the work) and I said put some cardboard under the motor over night and I'll come around in the morning to have a look and the drips are at the front of the motor grill side on the cardboard.
Look here at this clean river of oil that has been running down from the rocker oil cap and down the motor

Ring mechanic they said get oil cap part No. blar blar so did that and still leaks from the same place:confused:
Bring it back in they say and we'll have a look, pcv valve on these get blocked easy and will make crankcase pressure they say pushing the oil out and another new oil cap to go with the new pcv valve..

You guessed it still leaks from there:rant: bring it back in again and now they say crankcase pressure is caused by blow-by passing the rings and $1000 bucks (for a quick ring and bearing) to fix it..

I don't think so it's only done a 130,000kms and they didn't even do a compression test.

Told my nephew to take it else where to get the comp test done first and let me know!!!

Sorry it's long and involved but just trying to cover the lot:redface: in between all this he's put on a few more oil caps and no change of course.

I looked again on Australia day and removed the oil cap and it has a ring of oil on the rocker cover where the seal should have been pressed against the cover stopping it getting past there and it's no thin film of oil either, is there a factory problem with the rocker cover being faulty?

The new oil caps have all been CPC brand..

I removed the hose to the pcv valve and plenty of vacuum there and while that was off and the oil cap was off too there was no pressure coming out of the rocker cover or smoke/fumes or oil mist.

Last thing is there meant to be a baffle in the rocker cover to stop splash from the rocker gear that's right under it??

Help needed please and all help recieved with thanks:)

First of your issues is the CPC oil cap, the spring clip is crap in these. Get a genuine one from a wrecker if you have thrown yours out, get a new seal from mits for about 3 bucks and there is your first thing fixed.

Then take out the PCV valve and replace it.

Clean the pipe in the inlet manifold, squirt a heap of carb cleaner into the hole, blow out with air, do a few times.

Check the breather into the pipe between the filter box and TB is clear, again blow air through (not carb cleaner)

Does he have start up smoke? IF so get valve stem seals done, these can cause too much blow by as wel and thus you will have pressure build up as well.

Also, get a mechanic who knows about these motors before you start forking out $$$$$

Agreed!

Have a compression test, leakdown test and oil pressure test done, before deciding anything.

Its useless replacing parts one after the other without a propper diagnosis.

Thanks Madmagna:D

I can check the PCV and hose pipe between the filter box and TB is clear but the pipe in the inlet manifold, squirt a heap of carb cleaner into the hole! which pipe are you talking about as I'm not sure which 1..

There's no start up smoke or any smoke at all..

And the caps he's been getting crap hey that's why I mentioned the Brand..

Mechanic who knows about these motors? If ANY1 can recommend one in Adelaide or surrounding suburbs PLEASE DO!!!lol

Thanks also FiReStOrM,

Compression test yes, I've told him to get it done still waiting:rant:

Will let you both know the outcome..:D

Check both (rubber tube pipes) PCV front pipe and the rear pipe. I had similar problem with same mileage and found that the rear pipe was half blocked. Could not get the pipe off as it had hardened and seized to the outlets. Ended up cutting rubber pipe off and buying new one from Mitsubishi. Have not had a problem since, and I check these rubber tubes every 6 months now.

Under the inlet manifold, cast into it is a tube for lack of a better explaination, you can take the lower manifold off but unless you know what you are doing I would point against doing this.

Remove the PCV valve, squirt a heap of carb cleaner in the hole, blow it out and repeat a few times, this will be the best way to clean this on car.

Also in the rear rocker cover, the pipe the breather pipe goes into also gets blocked, blow out but do not use carb cleaner as it will end up sitting in the top of your motor
