yes sue is gettin more go mods done again after installing an aftermarket fpr at xmass (cant rember if i posted that or not) my cam and custom head are finished and i can stop keeping it under wraps

Installed today what a presume to be a stage/phase 2 cam done by wade i have the spec here but im not up on cam specs so its doesnt make any sence to me

Heres some of the spec on the intake side of things
Cam lift 320 Duration adv 270 duration @050 220 Valve Clr 009 Valve lift 439.
to give you an idea when i fitted the cam the adjustment on the rockers were aprox an extra 2.5 mm.

1st thing i noticed is i had to adjust the fpr as i lost 5psi in the rail. 2nd is it wouldnt idle so i had to adjust all that also. idle is about 900 rpm +/- 150rpm as it now hunts at idle and lower than 900 the cam stalls the engine, drive test seems promising with good torque from idle even tho i was told peek power was 3-7k and i wont be attempting that untill its done alot of ks to settle it all in, im going to be running this setup for 2 weeks to give the cam time to run in and then the custom head gos on with the new cam.

I got hold of an M4 head was checked for cracks etc after many discussions etc with some club members and looking at the M9 head this is what we come up with and how it was done at this time i have no idea how this head will run time will tell.

head was aquired tested bathed and the work on the combustion chambers started, we welded in kydney shape areas to the combustion chambers on one side only not both like the M9 high compression heads, after the initial fill of the chambers the head was baked at 200+ for 3 weeks (forgot to take it out was the words lol) thinking the head was now F*^&ed it was tested again and well it was fine, combustion chambers were shaped & the head was shaved. work then started on the valves with new seats and the intake valves were cut to 40/35/25 with 100% seal (dont hold me to exact numbers its been 2 months since) exhaust ports were cleaned up intake ports have been flowed and ported some i belive. not exactly sure what was done for springs i was they were being sourced 6 weeks later i get a message "the heads done bro "

My spare intake plenum has now gorne under the knife the objective is to widen the intake to 55mm to suit ez boys throttle body he made me, the thin neck of the plenum had to be filled then board, the guy doing all this work seen the stock plenum & custom tb on the weekend when i collected the head and cam to work out how to tap the bolts so that should be completed shortly also.

Cant wait for it all to be done so close now its been hard keepin it all under wraps from the 1st gen people for the 6+ months its being going on "why a magna .... why not" heres some pics of the head sitting here waiting to be fitted when i have time / money enjoy

Nice work, what compression ratio will you have with this head? :)

not sure :) if i rember ill run a test when its fitted, as for power figures as long as it pulls more than 83kw

You're dreaming.

Good work!

looks like plenty of work has gone into the heads.

whats the difference between an M4 head and an M9 head?

There all M heads, when they come from factory they are designated an M#, goes by which model you have, TM-TS
It's simply the code they use to associate with the 2.6 heads

you can see pics of the M9 head on the right had side or here:

http://magna.trynsave.net/index.php?title=Image:2g_head.jpg

so the idea is kinda stolen M9 head. 2nd gen astron 2 ran dished pistons 1st gen doesnt so i think compression figures will be compairable round 9.2:1 +

only diff i know of between M4 & M9 is the chamber shape as seen here:

What a weekend for me.

Saturday seen me remove the efi intake change the welsh plugs on the rear of the block (28mm ones under the balance shaft housing are a rite pain, motor was set to TDC, raidator removed & top bracket repaired, extractors undone and droped away, rocker cover off, rocker gear, cam, dizzy removed , timing chain zip tied to the top sprocket then off with her head.

At this point i turned to the guy helping me and said i think the pistons may strike the new head. i inspected the cylenders and the looked in verry good nick then proceeded to remove the carbon from the pistons and gasket from the block. i was informed at this point that the family vacuume cleaner shouldnt be used for sucking junk out of my motor by the good woman :) .

With the block and pistons awaiting the new goodies we went about fitting the sigma rocker gear and rails to the matched cam bearing caps turns out the rocker rails were burred or slightly distored on the ends making removing them a real bother, we got the rockers off and opted to use the rails from my old hydrolic lifters that didnt have this problem after a reassembling we sat them asside to see what head would be going back on :/

Overlaying the new head gasket we guesstamated once the head was torqued down the gap would be about .7mm (width of the gasket compressed) from the kydney shaped part of the chamber so on went the new head and was torqued down as you would, on went the cam, rockers and dizzy was gettin late in the day at this point the intake was bolted on and the day was called.

Sunday funday NOT

You cant have such good day working on an engine rite well sunday funday made up for it. Sunday started with me doing the welsh plugs on the front of the block connecting the extractors refit the radiator & all the plumbing and wireing. filled with the green good stuff double check everything go time rite ...

Wrong this is where fun day begins. turns out my assistant had pinched the top O ring on injector 1 i now had ethenole spraying across my engine at 38psi after swapping it with 2 and carefull fitting i got it to seal in number 2. went to start it it fired for like half a second then nothing. i was like ok ive probly got the timing out one tooth (insert 2 hours messing about with timing and position here) i come to the conclusion that from listening to it turn over with such compression it was doing it rather easy, regaped the lifters, done another timing check and the old girl grumbles to life for a moment and stalls, got it going again and held the revs up while setting the timing so it would atleast idle (aprox 16 deg) victory it runs

The fun continues i noticed a pool of oil under the car and i was like wtf same said assistant from the day before grabed the wrong gasket from the kit for the intake and the fuel pump hole in the head was only semi sealed (insert me going loco at this point aprox 3pm sunday) at this point i just said stuff it and worked on getting it to run and idle rite i ended up using some silcon gasget on the gap to slow the flow untill i can fit the rite gasket.

Monday Night seen me notice dancing tacho on the way home from work but it used to happen off and on so no biggy, had a mates set of floodlights in the car, the intake was getting done tonight do or die :) got home let it all cool and drained the coolant again (all my green inhibitor down the drain) while i was at it i flushed the heater core too, went to remove the dizzy cap & leads to put them asside out the way poped the cap and something smelt burnt :( dizzy cap had aparently got hungy and ate the button that touches the rotor i think it was just now runnin on the spring or who knows how it was running *shrug* was just about to do my chew when i rembered i had a tr dizzy cap n rotor in the shed so on with the show.

Intake removed prober gasket fitted with copper sealant stuff too all bolted back up connected filled and she said thanks with a first turn of the key start. burped the block in the drive then went for a spin the get more are out, all is now good new high compression head with cam etc is on doesnt leak a drop.

whats it go like? my speedo now gos up as fast as my tacho used too. seem like it has alot of torque and compression the way it idles can only be discribed like a worked v8 with 4 less pots lol sounds magic, ill be drivin it like a granny till the weekend to let it all settle in then ill play with timing and fuel psi (16deg @ 38psi atm) sounds great & wants to go hard.

Had a word with brian @ moe engines today re timing, gave me some ideas how far advance to run etc so ill try tune it some more come sunday he said if all else fails motek are cheap for 4cly lol but also said it runs etc so i should be able to tune it, TPS seems out of wack with all the fiddling so its on the to do list as well basicly all the hard stuff done just got to tweak it some more.. overall im verry happy with the new breath of life sue now has

cheers pete

going to be a sleeper isnt it

but first use it to run over your assistant ......at least his foot

outside will remain as it is close to a gt as possable, even the air/fuel guage will be mounted out of view. my assistant was still more of a hand than a pain in the ass overall so all is forgiven hes the type of guy if you need help hes 1st in line so im over it.

only things on the cards are fit the plenum thats being modded to 55mm intake & maybe an oil catch can then i think that will do just look after her after that.

Wow! What a machine :P

Have you managed to get yourself a set of wheels yet? Was it you that needed a steering wheel also?

I have my eyes open all the time so if i see any in your state ill let you know... id imagine youre probably looking anyway!? Youll come accross some soon!!

I reckon you should whack some gold 17inch wheels on it like i have on one of my burgandy GT's... its worthy of it!!! They cost $1000 with the wheel nuts, lock nuts, tyres and delivery.

Like this...
