The radio / CD unit in my 2002 KJ Verada GTV has just started cutting out randomly. It started with the CD player - so I thought maybe it was just bad CD's or some other mis-tracking problem. Now it's started doing it with the radio too.

It's like power is being cut to the unit for period of anything from maybe 1/10 second to several seconds.

It can work perfectly for 30 minutes and then spend the next 30 cutting in and out at random intervals. Then it'll clear up for a while before doing it again.

Anyone come across this before? I though maybe a power connection problem (but I'd expect that to be more related to bumps in the road moving the cable) or maybe an internal problem.

Can anyone tell me how you remove the radio / CD units?

Just in case anyone else encounters this, here's how it's been fixed:

Took it to my local ICE installer who diagnosed a possible problem with the amplifier chips. He sent it to some place in Victoria that deals with OE head units for most manufacturers for further testing & repair. Two weeks later, it's back, fully serviced with new amplifier chips and working perfectly for a total cost of $140.

I reckon that's a pretty good deal.

By the way, just for information, they confirmed that the standard audio equipment in a 2002 Verada GTV is Clarion (built to Mitsu's specifications).
