hello all! well, sorry for this, but im seriously far from an electrical genious... so before I start "wrecking" things literally... im after the wiring for the interior light? (if not the location under the dash...) where it comes down from the ceiling? is it under the plastic covering on one of the pillars? Ive installed another light to brighten up the footwells in the rear on the centre console, and just wanted to link them to the interior light!

and also... rear brakes! mine def need to be done. My mate is goin to help me out, he has the know how and equip! but whats the best brands to get for pads and rotors etc for a 96 TS exec?

thanks all, any help always appreciated! :)

I'm not sure I follow; do you have the stock footwell lights at all? Pretty sure either way the wiring and sockets will be right there for them, so much easier to tap straight into them. They are on the same circuit, ie. work exactly the same as the roof light.

In my exec there was only the driver's-side footwell light, but I discovered that all of the wiring and socket were in place for the passenger-side, just had to grab a bulb-holder from the wreckers and it plugged straight in.

What I did was run the wires from the new lights (let's say they're neons) under the carpet, leaving enough wire lengthfor the seats to move frontt/back (if installed on front seat bottom). I then ran them up the B Pillar behind the plastics (retained by just a few clips) and used a long piece of aluminium to guide the wires toward the interior lamp (which I had previously removed). Then, I connected the positive neon wires to the positive inteior lamp wire and then used a blade connector with a hole drilled through the centre and connected the negative neon wire to the slider on the interior lamp switch (There's a screw that holds a small copper slider to a plastic selector-effectively the switch) by screwing the blade connector on top of the slider which screws into the plastic selector. You'll understand what I mean when you look at the light switch.

Now when I turn my interior lamp "ON", the neons turn on, when I turn the dome lamp to "door" then the neons turn on when the doors are opened.

thanks man, good to know the wiring is there for these lights... i dont have them in the front, but i was thinking of wiring up some LED's under the dash or seat, and if theres wires there, ill tap into these for sure!

and as for the back, I dont have them either, but just as the front if these wires are there, ill use them also... but yeah, what ive done, is put lights on the back of the centre console (the bit with the arm rest between the two front seats) facing towards the footwells in the rear, so ill look to link one of these door wires up to that!

thanks bud and thanks too yann89, some good ideas and tips for wiring up some lights there!

I don't think there are any lights in the back footwells.

You should see a small white plastic panel above each front footwells, when you unscrew the panels these are part of you should see the corresponding sockets, and a hole through each panel that fits the bulb holder. Should cost you under $5 from a wreckers for both holders and their bulbs (which are standard T10).

hey you should really check out the post by Driver. its for neons but basically you can adapt it to anything.
http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=6534.
also a slight modification on his job that I'd recommend is instead of the single switch to select between the on off door modes you install two seperate switches. if i can figure out how i will attach a rough wiring diagram. anyway the benefit is that it allows yuo to selec always on or off, on the one switch, and door mode or not on the other but the real benefir is that if you turn them both on at the same time it turns ur interior lights on even if the doors are closed while the interior selector is left on "door". much easier than trying to turn around and switch the thing over while driving... hope you consider this, much easier install than yann i think it was well his method. tho its up to you.

easier I don;t kow. mine took me the whole of 30mins to do. including drilling holes etc. The point of mine is that I'm putting map lights in soon so I have no problem eliminating the dome lamp. I currently have a blue LED in there that glows the whole car, so maybe I'll tint the platic and leave it in there. who knows. that thread you posted, made by driver is a more complex but more professional way. If I could be botherd, I'd probably do it his way.
