Hi,

Just picked up my KL Verada Xi yesterday. Grange colour, 20,000kms on the odo.
It's not the first Verada I've had. I had a KH Verada Ei back in 2001 for about three years.

Interesting, this vehicle, the KL, suffers from the same ailment that my KH did.

The black external trim around the rear screen, has the black paint peeling / flaking. I had my KH's repaired under warranty, but the KL is about 9 months out.

Anyone else had a similar issue? It surely cant be just me?? Or can it!

Yeah common issue.. i looked into doing mine 6 months ago when it got reprayed and short answer is $250-300. i gave it a miss..:(

The mould is attached to the screen and has to be brought as a whole mould and glass combo. If anyone knows any other way please enlighten us..:)

Well how shyte is that on the part of MMAL? I had mine fixed in 2001, yet they were still producing the same faulty part? A blight on an otherwise great vehicle.

We should complain on mass!

Well here is a question for all those people that had it done under warranty. did they replace the glass when they did it or was it just the seal.?? Prob wont know unless you had tint on it..??

No problem here 10 years on. I wonder if it has something to do with salt air, as there is none of that here in Canberra???

As a solution, I know that in Canberra there are people who will powder coat metal sinks etc in your house in-situ. I wonder if that can be done on a metal car part on the car (obviously would need to be well masked out).....

I had mine replaced (screen and mold) under semi-warranty (some kind of triple diamond customer care) and MMAL paid for half of it.

it IS a known fault and when pressed, the dealer/MMAL will replace it. they will not pay for window tinting using this method.

and my car has only ever lived in Canberra, so it's nothing to do with salt in the air ;)

cheers,

My guess is that it goes off in the sun. Over the two years I've had the car, the amount of new peeling/flaking seems proportional to the amount of time it hasn't spent with the back end undercover....

Yeah My TJ2 had it and I was at war with MMAL and the dealer over it. For the record I won't buy another Mitsubishi over it but I digress.

Long of the short of it, I ended up having to find a dealer who agreed with me (and subsequently replaced it with one of what must have been a TL series 2 screen, with much thinner rubber around the edges)

Here is my original war of words: http://www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22642&highlight=urgent

Also you will notice we have about 35 members with the same problem.

so your saying that if i go out to Mitsubishi (in my local town) , they should replace it?

Yeah, mine has it and I just wipe some armour-all type product on it every month or so. However, mine has only peeled along the roof edge, the other sides are fine.

Not once its out of warranty.. They wont even thing about it..

So the conclusion is you need to replace the glass and rubber together.. $350 job..:)

morally, they should. they won't though. you might be able to talk them into paying for some of it (especially if you mention the 40 odd people you know that have had problems with it!).

you never know unless you ask, right?

Not suprising. Mitsu have a lot of redundancy packages to pay out soon, so they have to be careful with their pennies.
