Alright, a few of you have probably seen my threads asking for help choosing my audio gear, I'm up to deciding the final piece (apart from cables, sound deadening etc.), the head unit.
I'm looking for one with a rear USB (most likely gonna plug a flash drive into it in the glove box), 3 RCA's, and it has to be reasonably user friendly, I don't enjoy stuffing around trying to figure out how to find a song whilst I'm driving :).
So yeah, nothing fancy, no iPods, no Bluey, not even an AUX is necessary.

Cheers

get one with acc, i know you said its not necessary, but eventually you or someone you know will have an ipod or mp3 player that you will want to plug in and listen away

most decent ones will have aux in, just run a cable into the unit and hide the plug away for future access. especially ones with usb connectivity like ur after.

its worth it

everyones got an mp3 player now.

Kenwood KDC-X7533U has all u need plus dvd playback i think, and they are a decent price. can be picked up for under 200

Yeah, I spose, I use the aux on my JVC quite a bit atm, but I don't want to use it as the primary source as I'd always have to take my mp3 out and whatever, I'll just leave the flashy in the car, but yeah If theres a good one with it, i'm not gonna say no :), any suggestions?

EDIT: Heh, you edited before I posted, I'll check it out
EDIT2: I checked out the kenwood site for that one, and I can't see DVD playback there.. and it RRP's at 499 haha, the ACDrive thing on it sounds pretty cool though

If you want one that is easy to use, i would recommend a JVC.
I bought one for my day and he picked it up very quickly.
Plenty of features and good quality.

Yeah, I've been looking at JVC's, the only thing that's putting me off is that the USB's on the front :( I can't find any with rear USB from jvc

Hmm, I'll have a shot at that auction, if I can get it cheap enough, I'll put up with front usb heh.
Anyways, keep suggesting incase we find something even better :)

Here to help mate... Great head unit... has everything you can need and more...

It will read upto 4gb from a USB memory stick, and had my mates 60gbipod connected to it aswell. Im pretty sure the pre out voltage is 2.5volts. Fronts rears and sub outs.

I paid $400 for it 12 months ago... I saw that ebay thread and got upset...

Probably the best one out there under $700 is the Pioneer DEH-P7950UB. Has USB input plus Ipod control and AUX in ( just in case... ) and it has 3 pairs of 4volt outputs for a nice clean signal. Add 7 band EQ / HP / LP / Phase / Sub control it has just about everything but its expensive. RRP$649 :doubt: but most places have them for around $500 :D

JVC KD-BT22 - RRP: $499 (or around that)
Is the cheapest JVC unit that offers rear USB.
It also has;

Built in Bluetooth - you say you don't need it, but trust me, you can't live without it! Remember it's ILLEGAL to talk on your mobile phone in the car unless it's on a hands free system.
Rear USB - High speed USB that will also take digital ipod connection for full speed connectivity
Front AUX in
High grade tuner, ability to add CD Changer, cool colours, 5 band EQ etc. etc.

You should see it in stores next month.

Are you serious? For some reason I thought it was illegal to talk even with it =\, that sorta eliminates the purpose of it but I swear someone told me that.. Ehh anyways, yeah that looks alright, I'll have a look around for that, hopefully this eBay auction stays quiet and I can get the other JVC for just over 100 heh, that'd be a bloody bargain, but yeah, if it goes up too much I'll probably look around for a more expensive one like that (around the 500 mark).
Cheers

Re-read my post dude, it's illegal without a hands free system. Bluetooth on your head unit is a hands free system, thus, allowing you to use your phone in the car.

Only illegal if your on your red P plates (ANY type of phone use). If your on your greens or full license using a handsfree is fine.

thats one of the worst and most confusing/deceptive legislation... too many grey bits.

back on topic,

7inch screen on ebay with all you need and more eg, gps, bluetooth, etc. Going for about $500ish onwards posted. Beware cheap ebay brand... from China, don't bother reading the owner's manual, it don't make much sense.
