I've had a look at tailgate and not sure quite how to stick them in, im presuming by using various layers of MDF etc, but not sure on details so checking if theres any other possibilities.

Ive thought about the roof but decided i was to lazy to install them there lol

My 2nd gen wagon has splits in the roof, but I wouldnt be puttin 6x9's in there. Too big and not enough enclosure size. And I would imagine heaps of rattles and poor sound quality. 5 inch speakers or so would probably be good there though.

I say 6x9's put it in the side panels of the boot. Easy job.

You don't mention which model your car is, but I'm assuming 3rd gen; do all 3rd-gen wagons have the tailgate system? I've only seen TL's, didn't know if it was across the board.

I've got my 6x9's in my 2nd-gen mounted in custom MDF pods that bolt to the cargo barrier. They kinda tilt backwards and inwards, probably not the best system but it does what I need it to do.
The pods are rectangular with a semi-circular cross-section, cut 3 cross-sections of MDF + the face of MDF, the back curve was made from a very thick/heavy cardboard (almost MDF density). Another MDF cross-section was used on the other side of the cargo barrier, 3 bolts then being used to sandwich it securely in place.
The whole lot was covered in black velvet :D

Mounted in the sides of my TS Wagon.

Original idea was to cut the side panels & mount them flush, pulled the panels off, measured & cut passenger side, placed back to make sure all was fine.
Used passengers side as template for drivers side, cut it, placed in position only to find drivers side has a steel plate in the way &^%#$#* :bowrofl:

Pods/spacers are the way to go lol

Got new speakers I haven't put in yet, been looking at the tailgate.

@ Rogue, you got pics of yours?

just bout to say that.
my tj has them in tail gate so im guessing all 3rd gens have them there.

if you do have a 3rd gen without them in the tailgate you may be able to get a tailgate from a wreckers for cheap perhaps and just cut and paste.....

Thanks all, haha, heaps of replies over time that i was at school.

Yeah, sorry bout that, forget to say, 2ND gen wagon, my bad.

Yeah, looking at it im thinking i'll go with the side panel's and spacers, possibly inward angled spacers so they point towards people in back seat. Tailgate just looks to hard in 2nd gen.

I'm presuming theres space for wiring to fit down the side of the car under the carpeting?

I'm presuming theres space for wiring to fit down the side of the car under the carpeting?More than likely, but I've run my wiring down the centre; there's only like 1m worth of carpet you have to get through that way. Though I've then got the wires running to my cargo barrier, in your case it should be easy to run them parallel to the seat back and into the sides...

Cool, thanks man, will have a look at both and see, think that sounds all sorted, now just to spend my saturday and maybe some of sunday installing these things :)
