View Full Version : replacing air filter help
Hi All,
What needs to be removed in order to replace the standard air filter on a 3rd gen? Do I
need to remove the snorkel?
TIA,

All you need to do is release the two clips on the airbox itself, which will split in half, and then you can lift the filter out.

So you mean leave the bottom two clips in? Would there be enough room? Does the
snorkel bit bend up wards?

Just unclip the top two, and slide the filter out upwards, and slide it back in, simple as. you'll kick yourself once you do it

The front half of the airbox stays where it is, while the back half leans back towards the firewall. You shouldn't have to unclip the bottom, but if the filter is a bit difficult to get out then gently pull the back half upwards.
Ok, thanks for the quick responses, will go out and try it out. Case closed.

It would be impossible to unclip and then re clip the bottom as the botom does not have clips:nuts:
There are the 2 clips up top, the bottom slots into a tab and slot set up.
Undo the 2 tops, grab the air pipe and pull back a little, and the filter will lift out of the top

I had a feel under the box to begin with and thought that it had clips as well.
Yeah, got it done in 5 minutes (4 minutes of trying to slot in the K&N panel with the wider
side facing front until I had another look at the OEM and noticed that the dirtier side was the narrow side.

You joined in June 2003 and not once have you removed the Air Filter? odd.

Had a KS v6xi before and had fitted a K&N pod with custom ducting and holes cut in front
bumper but since getting the GTVi AWD, I haven't had the time to do anything myself and
since it is a lease car, got filters replaced at sevices (only twice since new).

I've actually been a member way before then, around the time Killbilly etc joined (in the old
club), probably since 1999.

Was really wierd that you asked. :bowrofl:
Thought anyone would know how to change a panel filter, as is almost same in nearly most cars, even the round ones.
But glad you got that sorted.
