I have just been talking with the mech at my Mitsubishi dealership about the slight vibrations that my car still experiences. That's not resolved yet (though we're getting there), but we did discuss the rough driving nature of some manual 2nd gens in particular the reluctance for these cars to coast smoothly on trailing throttle. (I know there's one or two others here with that problem – I certainly have it).

He said that the TPS Sensor and TP switch are set up to shut off the fuel as soon as you come off the accelerator. This is to protect the catalytic converter but has the unhappy result of sending a nasty jerk through the system. This is particularly so with an older car which has had time to build up a bit of driveline lash and maybe slightly worn engine mounts.

He said it can be adjusted out to some extent by adjusting the TPS within its range to turn the TP switch of at what amounts to a lower throttle opening. So, it might be worth trying or getting your mech to do. I'm going to get my guy to try it on mine soon.

I get this when coasting at about 80km/h when the overdrive is locked out, in an auto.

Its like the torque converter locks and the when you back off to light throttle it doesnt know if its to slip, or hold and jerks on the converter. Does that make any sense?

Like it bounces on the converter???
