Been patching the old exhaust for a while now, missus got home yesterday & I found 1 of the pipes coming out the rear of the muffler @ 45% & a few rust holes...time for a new system lol
What's a Catalytic Converter for/do, will I need to replace it too, how do you tell if they've had it, how much should I pay for one?
Never use to have 'em on the old Holdens (< HQ), my TS is my 1st *modern* car
Seen one on fleabay for $170 (Magna Flow Performance Metallic Catalytic Converter), no idea what that is, any good for my stock 2.6
Do I go the Redback system I see lots talking about on here?
If I do, will I get a drone in a Wagon from it?

A cat converter is there to meet emmisions.... If its blocked you will need a new one. no need to go a Hi flow unless you are thing of going forced induction.
A normal 2'1/4- 2.5'in will be enough.
Take it out and look through the cat. it has like a honeycomb center, if these hole are blocked its time for a new one. Usually they will melt and you will know with a significant power loss.:doubt:
If your after the sporty note you could go the redback from the catback... But otherwise to keep it quiet just replace with original.:D
I dont know about the drone in a wagon, will have to wait for someone else to post on this.

basically the cat is there to take a lot of the emissions out of the exhaust so the EPA doesnt go mental. Depending on where its rusting you can go a cat back (which is new piping and muffler/s from the cat onward) which is around the 300-350 mark which will usually give you a nice note depending on what brand. You shouldnt need a new cat unless it has rusted out as well. Redback makes a good exhaust i havent heard a magna one but i have heard it on a VS common***** and a EF falcon gives a nice beefy note with almost no drone.
