Stories a bit long winded, so bear with me

Got my 100k service last week (cam belt and such) and when i picked it up the aircon wasnt blowing cold. Air speed and volume was fine, it was just like i had the aircon on without the little snowflake button.

I called up the mechanic and he said they probably knocked a wire out of place or something and to bring it back in and theyl fix it up, so i took it back in but they couldnt find anything wrong with it. They were pretty confused so they got an auto elec to come and have a look at it, and he seems to think my compresor is stuffed, either the bearing seals or a stripped shaft.

My mechanic is a top bloke (serviced my girlfriends familys cars for years, never does anything without checking first blah blah blah) and has given me (in writing) assurance that if the problem was caused by the service then his workshop will foot the bill, so i took it to another auto elec who we both dont know and he said compresor as well, and that its probably just a coincidence that it went at the same time as the service.

Has anyone elses compressor gone? both the AE's said that magna compressors have a high failure rate, and that to fix it is gonna be about 900 buks. Just want to kno if this has happened to anyone else, and if anyone thinks it could have been caused by the service?

I would be looking in the dryer glass for bubbles when motor running and air con on

then if the compressor clutch was engaging

look for the wir connection to the air con compressor
make sure it is still plugged in

if the gas has leaked out the
air compressor stops working as a saftey feature (stops burn out )

next the tx valve may not be working and needs replacing

take it to an airconditoning specialist

Yeah i had mine go on a AMC cruise.. Made a **** load of noise and has throwing sparks. Sounded like i had thown a bottom end bearing or something..:)

Think i was $300-$400 but the time i found a second hand one and put it in..:) Hardest park getting the write one.. there where 3-4 differant ones in the TJ..:)

first of all the safety for low gas is not to prevent burn out.its a mechanical compressor not a electronic one. the safety is to stop the compressor ceizing(spel?).the oil to lubricate the comprssor is moved around the system with the gas.

if there is a leak in your system you can usually find it by a oily residue.just follow your pipe work looking for any oilyness.

can you clarify something;-is the clutch for your compressor engaging at all?or is the light in your cabin not comming on because of LP switch (LP= low pressure..aka- low on gas)

i cant help you the more details you give..if u live in brisbane u can bring it over
