Hi all

My headlights have failed. Fault is traced to faulty headlight/Indicator switch.
Fuses, relays, wiring etc are all OK
I can get a new one genuine, but expensive (~$300+) and has to be specially imported.
It's a '93 TR. I'm led to believe the switch is different depending if has airbags or not.
Mine does not have airbags.

Are these switches repairable ?

I will try the wreckers. Would any other models have the same switch, Eg KR Verada ?
If I can find one at wreckers, is it an easy swap, or should I send to an auto-electrician ?

Thanks for any help

Steve

As far as I am aware, it should just plug straight in. Pretty sure though that you have to get the ring of indicators / wipers, which goes over the steering column, don't think you can just pull off one stalk. Which then means you also need to remove the steering wheel, which is probably going to be your biggest issue. I think those cross-bar wheel braces have a size to suit, think it's 17mm maybe?
Judging from what you've said RE the airbags issue, I think that's 'cause airbag models (AND models with steering wheel mounted stereo and/or cruise controls) us a clock spring thing, and the ring of indicators / wipers is different to provide this rotating connector (sorry for the bad description).

Personally I'd guess you should be able to pick up the whole unit for under $20. If they try to charge you more, tell them where to stick it, give us a yell and I'll see what my local chain of wreckers will sell one for.
