Coming from an auto 3.0 the auto 3.5 feels really different, is this right?

In my vrx it feels lethargic below 2500rpm..(although the speedo moves along ok) but comes to life after 3k, when i lift the foot off the accelerator pedal while cruising the revs drops lower n "quicker" than my 3.0 feels like my frds 3rd gen camry

the exhaust sounds great, but dunno if i'll get annoyed during peak hour everyday driving

so how does a TJ vrx goes against cars like..auto 380, falcons, commodores? Atm im more on the looks of the car than performance lol

A 380 auto is significantly quicker than a 3rd gen auto.

EDIT: OK, Type40 is keeping me honest; any non 163KW model is slower, otherwise the same. I've been up against a few before I modded my car.

I did a 15.4 in Cittris's TJ VRX before he supercharged it. So it was about the same as my stock 380 manual.

Yep. Remember the TJ's have the same 5 speed auto as the 380 with the really short first gear so they do move off the line well.

and whats the ride height of vrx/sports compare to normal magna? coz it doesnt seems to be that low as well. v.similar to normal magnas

They are 10mm lower from memory. But the VR-X has the sideskirts which make it appear lower again.

i am unsure if they are lower..i know the TH was 10mm lower, but mine was like a 4wd when i got it. the spring rates are different as well as the shocks dampening

The wheel arch flares help too. But yes, they do sit like a 4WD from the factory :)

so how does a TJ vrx goes against cars like..auto 380, falcons, commodores?

It'll do a mid 15 sec quarter mile, which is pretty quick for the era - I'm pretty sure it'd beat a VT1 SS, and the VT-VY 6 cyls.

Read the Autospeed article: http://www.autospeed.com/cms/A_109590/article.html
In manual form, yours is an auto so expect to add a bit to the 0-100 and 1/4 mile times, but when it was built, basically quicker than everything bar the LS1 powered SS. These are a very underrated car... and damn sexy!
Manual specs, so add a bit:
0-100km/h: 7.04sec
400m: 15.07 secs

cheers, yep give it just little squeeze and it goesss...now gotta get the oil changed in the transmission as it flares a bit in 2nd and 4th at times

Sorry to bump this, but how does the VRX perform so much better than the other TJ's of its era? Wiki/Redbook tells me TJ's have either 150/155 kw and 300 nm whilst VRX has 163kw and 317 nM. These gains don't seem like that much to make it get to 100 in 7 secs as autoweb states?

Also what will the performance feel like coming from a 3L TE to a VRX (both auto)? Does it push you into the seat as the reviewer states?

Sorry but I don't understand your post. Are you saying you own a VRX and it accelerates away after 2000rpm?

most 3rd gens have a gigantic flat spot from idle to 2,000rpm a high flow TB usually fixes this as well as a few other items. i have a TH atm and it is doughy till 2grand then takes off as it hits the powerband. A vrx is very similar except slighty more powerful due to tune/cam difference

Not sure about anyone else, but i am unaware of any flat spot. It pulls clean and hard from idle. Only with the aircon on do i notice a slight flatspot around 3000-3500rpm.

it does pull clean from idle, however if u only rev it to 2000rpm theres no go in it

what i meant was, at mid -higher revs theres not comparison in acceleration betw vrx and 3.0s, however i cant tell too much difference when cruising

Owning a TJII VR-x Auto... I'd have to agree that its a bit lifeless below 2500. But after that, and held in the right gear....

The Ralliart is da bomb. I'd give my left cajone for a low km manual.

Apart from an only just discernible co****r idle, the engine has the same exemplary drivability as the cooking models. The torque through the rev range is immense, and the throttle response is - like the VR-X - amongst the best of any car that we've ever driven. With the gearbox and final drive ratios unaltered, it's a natural to change first-third-fifth around town - going through all of the gears in sequence is pointless. Second gear at a walking pace is not even noticed: the engine has so much torque that driving off from even a standstill in the second ratio causes no angst at all.

And in fact, if in the rain you want to be even slightly quicker than the rest of the traffic, starting in second gear is the only way to get going. In first gear on a wet road the Ralliart wheelspins, axle tramps, leaps from side to side - and goes no where. While the VR-X axle tramped when provoked in wet conditions, it's more usual behaviour was single wheelspin - the car remaining settled while this occurred. But the Ralliart is anything but settled - the front end of the car smashes up and down so hard that you fear a broken driveshaft.

But it's a measure of the engine's greatness that even when driving off in second gear, it does 0-100 in 7.8 seconds... staying in that one gear all of the way...

after doing 8000kms in 4 month

the performance of vrx is quite awesome, acceleration at any speed is stunning for a magna. love it to bits, too bad abt the petrol prices thats limiting my fun times.
