Ok so a noob question. I have tried searching but couldnt quite find exactly what i was after.
My question is how much of a difference in power would there be in a DOHC 24valve and a SOHC 24valve? I the extra cam really needed when there are the same amount of valves?

Yes definitely. The extra cam allows you to open the valves for longer, and also allows more control over changes during the RPM range.

The difference (one of them) between the two head designs is that you can time the exhaust and inlet cams differently, to alter valve overlap. Having valves overlap (where both inlet and exhaust vavles are open at the same time) helps remove combustion products (the incoming charge blows the exhaust gas out), making the firing as efficient as possible.

The power difference depends on a lot of things, and it isn't so much power that increases, it's torque. More cylinders = more power + torque.

cheers guys.
I want to put twin turbo on my TW and am trying to think of how to keep it that extra bit reliable as well as getting the extra power, so I think DOHC could help with with that.
cheers again.

screaming TE is currently doing a DOHC conversion atm from a pajero it is possible but a lot of $$. Its the same with TT if you have the cash and are prepared to not drive your car for 3-6 months then good luck with the engine mods.

EDIT: Twin turbo magnas and reliable dont usually go hand in hand together :P

yeah, kind of annoying that way, thats why i thought doing a DOHC conversion might help but first of all wanted to check what kind of difference it could make.
