Hey guys,

I'll be installing my system in my KL soon and was checking it out on the weekend. When running large gauge power and earth wires, where's the best place to pierce the firewall to get them in? I couldn't find an 'easy' place to get access to.

If anyone has any ideas, and if they could get a pic, that would be amazing.

Cheers :)

being the rada is auto, i *think* the best / most used place to come thru the firewall is where the clutch cable is ment to go thru the firewall.
you should have a grommet there blanking the hole off - poke your amp cable thru - make sure to use the grommet / a grommet, saves the issues of shorting for no reason in the future!

one place i used in my elantra when i put the amp in the boot, was the drain plug in the passengers footwell for the optional sunroof!
then brought it around the top of the inner plastic guard and it positioned the cable nice and neatly at the battery.
maybe something to keep in mind in case of the clutch cable hole becomes difficult.

no probs :)
oh also - you will most likely have to peel the carpet away from the firewall a bit to be able to get at the clutch grommet.
to get your cable to the boot - the sill panels come off pretty easy and there should be nice deep channels there for you to put the cable in :)

be sure to post pics of your installed system as well - we all like pictures here lol

In the KJ verada ( which I am sure is the same ) there is an easy gromment on the passenger side about half way down. Power cable pops out just under the glove box. On the correct side and ready to be run anywhere in the car...

Well unless it’s hidden down the back of the battery box on a series 3 / 380 and is impossible to see without removing the whole unit.............. Its not there and there’s the same material that’s under the bonnet on the firewall and I cant see any place through it.... i will have to go back to a dealer and look at a manual to see where the clutch cable comes out .... But on close inspection (i.e. without pulling things to bits) there’s no easy way through on mine

Look harder, I couldn't find one in the Bora that was easy and I tried the hard way. 20mins later I found the easy way hidden. There are 4 grommets through my car. Clutch cable is the easiest way through a 2nd gen cause the battery and everything is on that side.

Just go through the middle of the interior, basically inline with the center console and on the firewall, there should be a bit of white plastic under some metal brackets, remove the brackets and plastic and you should find a thick loom of wires going up into the engine bay (ECU wires). AT the firewall there is a rubber stopper, pierce with stanley knife and poke cable through. Takes about 20 minutes tops.

when i did mine , there is a grommet on the passenger side right in the corner (behind the strut tower). jack your car up, take the wheel off + the inner guard. Poke a hole through the first grommet and you will see it come though. Now there is a grommet that goes into the interior on the side. Poke a hole though it, feed your cable though, seal it up and that part is done

3rd gens have hydraulic clutch. Anyway, as previously stated, there is a spot on the passenger side, near where the a/c pipes join the fire wall. Should go straight through.

Correct. It also allows you to come up from behind the firewall material with your cable straight to the battery.

Dodskis idea is if you want to do it the cheap way and have the cable entry at your feet - not the best idea considering you can crush, continually rub the cable with your feet...
