I'm looking for an auto trans cooler for an AWD magna, but was wondering if anyone had any recommendations? There is a mitsubishi genuine model, but do PBR or others do them too? I'll be getting a boat soon, even though its not heavy, I'll be towing it up and down the NSW coast a fair bit, so a cooler sound like a good idea. I know there is a small one built into the radiator, but I've heard you need to supplement it if you tow. Cheers!

There is a transmission cooler internal to the radiator, however, if you want to fit another, keep in mind that the fittings are 5/16th for magnas, not the more common 3/8ths - you can fit a 5/16th hose to a 3/8th, but you risk streching it a bit (breaks the reinforcing) or a 3/8th can be crimped down to 5/8th (but there is a risk of leaking)
PWR do a cooler with 5/16th fittings, I bought one ages ago for my AWD.

Just Jap would probably have some decent 2nd hand coolers you could pick up for your application

Dont bypass the original cooler though, run it in series.

Hi all, I have recently wrecked two second gen magnas and am currently driving a 1992 TR 2.6. All three cars had an externally fitted transmission oil cooler bolted to the lower front subframe in front of the radiator with the transmission lines running in sequence through the cooler in the radiator . Am I to understand that these type of tranny coolers are not standard? I am just fortunate to have scored three cars all fitted with aftermarket coolers, that look genuine as the mounting bolts screw into existing fixed nuts. Just an afterthought, the TS I wrecked did not have and was never fitted with a towbar but still had the extra tranny oil cooler. Any thoughts?
AND GAS-HEAD, I looked over the previous posts on this subject and my cataracts must be playing up as I do not see the words or phrase "original equipment" or "standard" anywhere at all! Wazzup?

Second Gens come standard with Tranny coolers, as mentioned TWICE in this thread already.

Don't know if PBR would as they make brake components, but PWR certainly do make universal transmission coolers that come with fitting kits that make them easy as piss for anyone to fit. I think I paid about $90 for mine from Repco.

Cheers guys. Problem solved, I'll track down a PWR (got mixed up with PBR) cooler. I do alot of country driving (took the bus to work last year, and still did 25000 km!), with towing a cooler would help the life of the box. Hate to think what an AWD trannie would cost. Not many around
