Howdy folks
Being new to the Mitsubishi marquee … I am not too sure of how to go about getting a high current cable from the engine bay into the boot ( iam sure there’s many of you out there who have ) … iam used to doing this on fords and the like where their sill panels screw down … but I don’t even know how to get the Mitsubishi ones off with out trail n error ( i.e. breaking things ) … and the best place to get the cable through the firewall ??… so anyone who has done this on a 380 ??/ Your help would be appreciated

Well unless it’s hidden down the back of the battery box on a series 3 / 380 and is impossible to see without removing the whole unit.............. Its not there and there’s the same material that’s under the bonnet on the firewall and I cant see any place through it.... i will have to go back to a dealer and look at a manual to see where the clutch cable comes out .... But on close inspection (i.e. without pulling things to bits) there’s no easy way through on mine

Well just went to the dealer and looked at a manual …. The hydraulics comes through the firewall just to the right of the power booster …. BUT it’s a punch out plate and you would have to remove everything off the firewall to remove the black material like is under the hood … unless you do a butcher job ….. So it’s back to square 1

I just had a look under my bonnet to see how they wired in my new computer & they have gone through the firewall just behind & above the battery.

Well iam a bit of a non conformist … I could have got most any aussie car … but the 380 is pretty unique as in all the sheep don’t drive one … and as you would know driving a modded one attracts plenty of looks …. Most ppl ask what they are
Iam not a young bloke (but young at heart) so ill probably go down the supercharging / turbo road with what ever mods needed to achieve around 300 kW …. When I was young I drove a bog stock (looking) chev c20 pick up …. But it was twin turboed and put out around 450 hp ….. Was fun wiping the smiles off the faces of the ( morono ) driving set .. would be fun to do the same with the xr8 / ss set these days ….. Childish I know …. But even oldies like to have fun

Ha Ha don't worry - I doubt I'm going to shock any 270+KW VEs anytime soon.
Bogans = VN/VL 6 and 8s; Ford E series and AUs all with incredibly loud exhausts that tail slide every corner or do burnouts wherever there's a spare 3 metres of tar.
What i can't understand is there is tons of open road up here (Bribie Island), dual lane, where they could go that is quiet and away from traffic... but, no, they rather try and break their diffs where the little old ladies, mums and small kids hang out.

I know exactly what you mean there mate. I laugh at all the "younguns" who want to bait me on the main roads during peak hour traffic here in Canberra. I got nothing to prove, I wouldnt waste my fuel on them or risk a ticket. Its amazing the idiots the rain brings out. Yep, haning the rear out uncontrolably around a roundabout.....HERO status.
Bloody nobs.

Yes i will take some pics on the weekend when its fine ... as its pretty much finished on the outside .. ive had to " raise " the rear a little from what you can see in the profile pic as i carry some weight .. shame really as it looked nicer the other way ...the springs are inbetween std height and lowered ... so thats about 20 lower then std on the rear ... front is normal lowered
i would like to see some more of yours especially the rear

Mate, Nice 380. I had my Electro Blue VRX Lowered and on 20in Chrome rims. I used to get noticed a lot. Soooo many comments from people who said if only Mitsubishi took notice and offered something like that from factory.

Disposable income is good. Bet we all can remember when you had to ask the mates for fuel money way back then. Thats why these days we have big titan sheds full of cars or are the TOYS (Healey Sprite/ Morris Minors) and the 380 in the house garage.

Hey Richard, you know CNJ are the QLD agents for the APS twin turbo kit for the 350Z? Check it out at http://www.airpowersystems.com/350z/350z.htm they have dyno graphs too. I was gonna buy one before the 380 but I didnt realise they were only a 2 seater, I thought they may have had the 2+2 seats in the back so I could jam the kids in. Oh well I'll just have to wait for the R35 GTR & hope theres room in the back for the kids!:D :D

Thanks mate, your electro blue was a good looking car & your new ride looks pretty hot too. You're right about Mitsubishi, I look at my car & it doesn't really look like a 380 once you drop it & fill the guards with rubber. Makes all the difference.
You don't have to be 40+ to be a mitsu fan, Im 21 and have just sold a pimped TH and bought a 380 LX with every intention to build on my rep for nice mitsu around my home town of Ballarat. will post photos soon. Stock atm 1 week old

not sure if anyone cares anymore or if its been said but I ran the power cable in my brothers 380 inside the left guard with the wiring loom just untapped the rubber gland thing pushed the cable through with the loom then taped it all back up so didn't have to cut or break any seals at all

Just remember guys that not all of VN/VL 6 and 8 drivers are like that. The few that are give the good ones the worst name, and the worst treatment and respect from the law and community. I'm 23, and certainly don't appreciate seeing some knob sliding through a busy roundabout or racing in traffic (in a vehicle that dangerously unroadworthy, nontheless). Don't get caught up in the "young hoons" attitude that the media delivers to your eyes every night at 6pm. Case for case, you would have driven by an army of resepctable young VL (I say VL because I hate VNs) drivers, and not even noticed them - because they're not doing anything wrong.
Just remember theres two sides to each coin!

Why do you say that you hate VN's when all they are is a VL inflated to 100 psi? lol

OK, looking at that rubber grommet in Fooz's photo, pretty sure that goes straight to vents. Trying to get in via loom up left guard inside, and **** is it a pain.
Anywhere else people know of?

If you take off the left hand front plastics off around the inside of the passenger front wheel arch you will find that there is a path from the back of the glovebox to the engine bay, with correct grommets etc.
That is the path that Sprintex take for their piggy back ECU which they fit in the cabin to the side of the glovebox.

Yeah, that's where we're going at the moment, just hoping for an easier option, as it's jammed tighter than a nun's **** in there with the loom

If you lose your temper make sure the hole you make can be big enough to change the firewall spark plugs...:) :)

Yeah I know that it doesn't go through now. I have had my inner guard out twice now & it's a piece of cake once you know what you are doing. The worst part is having to jack the car to take the wheel off.

Good to see some young blood in here!! Depending on how far you want to go with your ride as to what threads to look at, but I think everyone would agree to start with the 90mm intake. Do a search on threads for that and exhausts. Some good reading there.
Yeah ok I am 48 .....but I am not the oldest here!!!! lol

As you can see from the pic they went through the existing grommet behind the battery.
Hey,
Don't suppose you could show me where they came through on the inside of the firewall. I'm having trouble finding where to go from there. There doesn't seem to be any grommets on the other side of the firewall in that area.
Any pics would be helpful.

That was a mistake, see the above post by me, you need to jack the car & remove the passenger front inner guard plastic & all will become obvious.
