From what I have read in this forum (I think) and other motoring forums - an aftermarket steering wheel is not legal if the original steering wheel came with an airbag on it - otherwise OK. You would be best to have this confirmed by the RTA or an inspection station.

The 98 Execs didn't come with a drivers airbag did it? If it didn't you should be fine.

AFAIK is was an optional extra on most models around that time.

Its blatantly obvious if your car has one, there is a loud PWOOMF and a smack in the face when u hit something hard enuff lol

very few of the new AUDI's out there - that are imported into australia by audi, have a completely circular wheel. Most of the more sports ones (RS4 springs to mind here as an example) have a flat section on the bottom of the steering wheel, but thats to help people get in and out of the cars i think...

if your car left factory with a drivers airbag you have to replace the stock item with an airbag equipped one. if it didnt have an airbag, then from what i understand your allowed to change them for anything.

Other than the airbag rule the only other rule is the new wheel can't be smaller in diameter at any point than the old one. So you could have a flat bottomed one, IF from the bottom to the top of the wheel wasn't smaller in length than original.

LOLZ so true though. I just say whack it on, you shouldn't have too much trouble with the popo. Just don't draw their attention.
