an intercooler cools the air down as it moves through it right?
what say i get a 2nd hand cooler very cheap.. i fit a ram pod filter to the end of it... and piping straight to the throttle body...... as the engine sucks air in will the air that is now entering the engine be cooler then sucking in air straight from under the boonet?
if so will it be much cooler? say if it is 10deg cooler.... will i notice any gains? this is in a N/A vechile too by the way....
or say if the cooler is front mount so it will definitely be cold... if i can get a cooler for say $10 or whathave u..... do you think it will be at least noticeable?

it would losse to much air in take by the time alll that happens it will get no air just my thougth any way

When a turbo compresses air it heats it up - passing it through an intercooler allows the air to be cooled by atmospheric air back down to near ambient temperatures.
You can't cool air to less than ambient temperatures with passive cooling.
An air-to-air intercooler has no cooling effect on a naturally aspirated engine because the air in the intake is alread at ambient air temperatures.

i wonder if you can fit a intercooler to act as your radiator ;)
hahahahhahah... weeee!!!
:-k i donno.. can it be done

The wonderful thing about water is that it is a great absorber of heat, cheap and not poisonous. That why we use it everywhere. In nuclear plants they deal with alot more heat and what they do is pipe liquid sodium (liquid cause its so hot) into a water bath turns it to steam and then turn a steam turbine then cool it in those big cooling towers using air so they can reuse the water.
Air on the other hand holds little heat and really hate absorbing it (it is an insulator) so why do we have air cooled motorcycle and aircraft engines? Its free and plentiful.
So yeah you can use an intercooler but my god you would need to have a powerful compressor running a lot of air through the intercooler and the engine.
So as cthulhu said you need to compress the air so that it heats up and then you can cool it.

so how would you compress the air on a NA engine, useing a intercooler as ya radiator :?:

you would install a 20kg aircompressor and run it off of your engine.

Yeah, an intercooler is the same as a radiator; they are both heatsinks.

Why would you want to do that?

Booya.. stop! an intercooler is for cooling air! (you probably know that), the Radiator is for cooling water (you probably know that too), now... water is a much better transferer of heat energy (up to 30 times better than air!)... so putting an intercooler in place of a Radiator is a bloody stupid thing to do!!
(p.s. they are esentially the same design concept except one is made to carry water and one air)
and for Berrjona, the only way a intercooler installed the way you suggested would work would be if you artificially cooled the intercooler (like and evaporative spray, used on higher end turbo applications)... and even then you wouldn't get a huge dissappation of heat in the air, maybe up to 5°C cooler...i dunno, but it couldnt be much more... go ask a refrigeration expert!

what would make you think that id use a intercooler as my radiator
that is pure RICE

you coult just put a front mount there to look like you're running a turbo!!!

hahaha. thats even worse then my idea!! hahahah. at least it would of had *some* acutual function!
