Hey guys need your opion.
I have to buy new tryes but i want to know whats the best one.
I currently have the perilli Dragons on my car but got about 45,000km out of them.
I want a tyre that i can get good km's out of it and naturaly grips well.
I know the dragons grip well but they are a tad expensive spending $880 on tyres every year is not my cup of tea.
I do about 1000kms a week
Your opions will be much apreciated.
Cheers
Sharkie.

I use Toyo Proxies 4, they've been fantastic and haven't let me down.

Tyres which grip well in the dry are usually made from softer compounds, hence the reason they dont last long, especially when they heat up. Unfortunately you trade off dry grip for tyre longevity.
I'd say either get something a little cheaper, like maxxis tyres.. or get a tyre thats not advertised as sports/performance.

I had the maxxis maz-1 on my car very good but they where directional tyres the dragons are not.
I was looking at cheap tyres that where like $140 like the kelly brand tyre but i there is no gurantee they will last as long as a $200 tyre?
thoughts?

The 3000a only has a 93 load index which isn't leagle on Magnas (but don't tell anyone cause my tyres only have a 93 load index as well)lol

Only that you cant rotate them to the different side of the car, only front and back. Also supposed to be noise/harshness difference between directional and non directional, but this mainly depends on the tyre, and even though those Maxxis tyres are directional, I have heard they are exceptional quite and comfy.

im pretty sure 3rd gens are 91 rating for the minimum 2nd gens 87 load rating
as for tires i have Goodyear Eagle F1's atm which have done 10k or so, but my old man has them on his xr5t its done 38k so far and they are just on halfway.

I know that TH load rating is 95, I am guessing that TE,TF&TJ are the same. Not sure about TL. In 2005 I bought a tyre placard at Mitsubishi, part number: MR 930852, with load rating of 94. Can someone confirm load rating for TJ & TL.

yes it is a 94 load rating
Sharkie, $880 for four Pirelli's is pretty good price. Doing 50000 kms a year you are aware that you need to change tyres every year. There are not many tyres which will last over 50 K .
Are any of those kms business related so you can claim car expenses?
Being land of roundabouts is not good for tyres. It eats outside of front left tyre. If they are directional you can rotate them front to rear only, or alternately after about 20-25 K go to tyre place and have them turned over on the rims.
If they are asymmetrical or non directional you can rotate them front to rear and rears diagonally to front.
I doubt there is a 17" tyre under $200 which would be worth my attention. I can't tell you which tyre to buy but would not suggest compromising on tyres.
Have a look at BF Goodrich g-Force Sport or Falken FK452. They are both good tyres and tend to be cheaper than Pirelli or Michelin.
These are the tyres I used in the past seven years: Pirelli P5000 Drago, Yokohama A539, Bridgestone G III, Falken FK452. Mind you I do on average 25000 a year and change tyres every two years.
As an option you can have a set of 15" wheels for work and keep 17" for pleasure

Sounds like its the same tread pattern just different rubber... COPY
I have the maxxis and done 40000km hard driving and just need to be replaced soon.
I would not say they are great for grip, but going from the stockies to 17 its was a big difference. Not the best in the wet either.
But still a good all round tyre...lol I am getting them agian if i cant get a better deal on somthing else.

Yeah the same ones... i diddn't say they were bad..
Ive always had small cars with great rubber like the goodyear GS-D1 and D3's
And yoko A539's...
They might be great for a larger car, i spose im comparing to the smaller cars. and original rubber
But still good. I'd say 7.5/10

in the past i have paid $300 per tyre for my car (gridd II) and got 70000km out of em cos of regular rotating front to rear. I current have Goodyear Eagle LS2000 on, and find them better in the wet...which we have had a lot of lately. They were $220 each, and not directional, so rotating will make them last even longer . I rotate every 5000km.

Sharksman, good mileage and grip don't always go together.
If u're after less than 200 bux per rubber, try Toyo Proxes P4 (225/5017), not too soft but not too hard either to be too slippery.
Also, before I got my K 104 I had Toyo TPG (235/45/17, 220 bux), which still had 5mm pattern after 35G, but were unevenly worn and had to be replaced. They also got quite aged (3+ yrs), hence were hard and slippery at end, but with your mileage, u'd never have that. :)
