I did a 500k round trip with no hassles save for the last block home when my te magna began spluttering before finally dying as we got it into the driveway. It would start up for a while, still spluttering and carrying on, and then stopped and wouldnt start again. Our local RAA diagnosed a dead fuel pump so Ive replaced that and still no go. The engine symbol light was coming on when it started playing up as well.
Any clues?

How about doing some investigation in to it, so we are not purely speculating.

Here is a list of things to check.

Fuel pressure: loosen the fuel hose to the fuel rail, point it in to a bucket and turn the car on, fuel should flow when cranking and for 3 seconds after turning the car to ON

Spark: Undo a spark plug lead and put a screwdriver in it and the metal shank of the driver near something metal and crakn the car. Watch for spark.

Power to ECU, injectors, ignitor and fuel pump: Power the car up to the ON position, and use a multimeter. Injectors will have power both sides 100% of the time, ignitor should have 12v on 2 pins and not the third, and the fuel pump will get powered when cranking.

You can get the engine fault codes by earthing pin #16 under the dash on the mutt port. The indicators on the dash flash from memory. They flash like morse code so write down the dash-dot counts. Let us know if you need more help. All this neat stuff is in the Haynes manual. Worth it's weight in oil.
