On my TH Sports, there is a bearing making bad noises in 1st, 2nd and 3rd. It's done 174k. Anybody have this happen to them before? Which one is it if that is the case. The box is going to be run untill it stops then depending on price either rebuilt or binned and replaced with a newie, maby a 380 one if the price is resonable.
So another question is, people who have paid for manual gearbox rebuilds, how much were they? And people who have bought brand new gearboxes what have you paid for it? No I wont be getting a used one if anyone says that.

working on stuff today about a V6 box 1994 model 5 speed
aprox 2000 + for a rebuild and fit no broken cogs or shafts
exedy std clutch $220 not exchange
aprox $400 full bearing kit
$400 ceramic syncros
depends on other parts such as syncro hard parts and shift linkages worn
was told today syncro kits difficult to supply
so check on availability before taking your car off the road
I was told by a gearbox reuild shop
It is wise to fit new bearings
and syncros if you intend to keep the car

I've paid around $1500 - $1600 odd for remove, pull down, fit LSD, rebuild and refit on 2 occasions.

does the bearing noise sound more like the clutch bearing ?
that can be a constant if ceasing
when was the last oil change ?
might be metal on the magnetic plug as an indicator
your car says a 380 box would do nicely

Don't forget 380 manual trans has shorter final drive ratio. I had to replace my pinion gear last g/box rebuild and toyed with the idea of getting 380 crown and pinion gear (was only $60 more or something), but decided against it.

Yeah man that's the idea with the 380 box, 4.11 gears vs 3.7 will be awsome in the TH

Ahhhh..... didn't even notice you were asking for the TH, just assumed it was for your car.

In all honesty i reckon the 4.11diff in a non LSD equipped 3.5 manual would make off the mark traction even more of a problem, especially with the TH's fairly light weight (compared to the 380) and in everyday driving with the absence of any traction control setup.
In my TH manual (which does have a LSD), i reckon the stock gear is pretty much ideal for the setups ive had, if the magna was a auto RWD car then things would be different regarding the lowering of the diff ratio.

At $4500 a pop for a brand new box from the cheapest place I could find, it's getting rebuilt

Output shaft bearings went on my TF. Got 1st and 2nd syncro dones too. $680 at Newcastle. The *other* shop a km away wanted $2000. Guess which workshop was busier.
