Ok so Alpine said no to warranty on my buggered Type S sub. I was shattered, so I decided to partake in some retail therapy... What do you buy to replace a Type S? Why a Type R of course! The fellas at my local audio shop thought i got the rough end of the pineapple from Alpine, so they got me the 12" Type R sub at cost price, yay! And they also threw in a free tune, so very happy there!
Taking photos of shiny curved things is bloody hard!

Now to build a panel from the box to the edge of the boot, to hide the wiring and mount the amp.

nice ill be looking at a 15" one later on this year
Thats the sub i have :) its awesome. you will be happy as larry with it for sure. going from twin 12 inchs to single with dual voice coils i can say that this is better in everyway :D
what amp are you running it off? looks like the V-power amp... should be a good match
what did they say about porting the box? anything. would be interested to know cos i have the box that came with the sub and it is ported, would be interesting to compare the sound, see if there is much difference:cool:
good buy, especially at cost price, where was that from?

Got it from Bryan Smythe Car Audio in Murray Bridge. The box is just one that they make instore. They didnt say anything about porting, though I reckon a correct sized ported box would crap all over this one. The amp is a MRP-M450 V Power mono amp, 400WRMS if i remember correctly.
Sounds awesome playing my Gfs dancey music stuff, and pretty good for the metal/rock I listen to.

I thought a ported box was better for long bass eg. dance stuff, and a sealed box was better for fast clear bass eg. metal. But I could be wronglol

in general correct, but with proper tuning you can make up for the differences either way. often a less powerful sub in a ported box will have trouble with double-kicks and that sort of stuff, but the type R is powerful enough to still do the double-kicks with ease
