i hope he is giving it around 1000wrms into 2ohms, or else its just not on :bowrofl:

The amp is a kenwood 9152D - 900wrms @ 2ohm but with a 1800w peak so its pretty close.
just blown away by how much nuts a single sub can have.

Mate.. that's gonna look wicked!
How much did you get it for?..
Now I'm thinking about changing my decision for my sub..
Has anybody heard this sub and the Hertz HSX380D?
If you have or if you just know what you're talking about, I'm looking for something that'll play metal and stuff, AKA really fast kicks..
Which sub would suit this better?..
Thanks heaps, sorry for the hijack

any sub in a sealed box would be sweet for metal.... just audition them and decide what you like better

Alright, it's just that I've heard smaller subs react faster (which makes sense). But would a 15 in a sealed box be fast enough? It's just I can't find a place that has the 15 on display in a sealed box.. I'll keep looking anyway but it'd be good if someone's had experience with these subs and this kind of music.
Cheers

Myths. My single 15" kept up with smaller subs easily. It's all box design and installation, plus tuning the frequency cutoffs correctly. I have dual 15"s now, and they still react incredibly quick. It'll also depend on quality of subwoofer, you will get what you pay for.

i use a single Type-X and its awesome for metal.
i'd recommend a sealed enclosure for these, not that i have anything against ported, just all the ones i've heard have been sealed and left me wanting nothing else.

wow! i got mine at $699, and thats straight after a price drop, for $350-400 i'd get 2!!
although then i'd need another MRD-M1001, which still arent the cheapest amp getting around

Good to see you like it. Definately keep it sealed.
Not my cup of tea though.

Ive had a 12" X in my old Verada, beautiful quality but the loudness factor is overshadowed hardcore by the same year Type R's. For the price you pay for an X I was displeased and ended up changing them for two R's.
Type X - Power hungry ****, tiny doof, huge quality and low hz response.
Type R's - Power hungry ****s, huge doof, good quality (great in the scheme of subs), loss of vision.
Glad to hear about a happy X owner.

but for those after a single sub setup, like me - needed more of my boot space back again, its a pretty nice piece of gear for the price.

I don't know why you went and got 2x type-R's if you didn't like the X. Whats wrong with:
DD2512 / 3512
Oz Me 12.2
IDMAX
RE XXX
Boston G5
Treo SSi
Hertz Mille
Vibe Space 12
Crossfire XT
Focal 33KX / V2
Seas SW300
Not particularly in that order but I would look at any of the above over an Alpine woofer ( I have forgotten some but yeah ). But I am an Alpine speaker h8er :bowrofl:
The X is a decent woofer, "tiny doof" is obviously you having it in the wrong box or lack of power. At least they look pretty from the back. As I said not my cup of tea but this is why auditioning is important, let your ears decide. :D

1) The crappy audio shop I decided to deal with didn't stock any of these under recognised beauty's.
2) Box looks identical to the one in the pic above, its a pre-fabbed box not designed around the sub but works. Having said that my X was definatly not underpowered because I coupled it with the largest Alpine monoblock at the time, its excersion was stupid (good 5cm at least) just not loud enough to justify the price imo.
I totally respect the space issue Davo is talking about though.

the one in the pic was made to suit by Northfield at Marooka by the guy that i bought it off. but yeah, lack of doof seems a bit wierd, this is deffinately one of the better subs i have heard or owned for both doof power and SQ (from a single driver of course).
I guess the point of thread in the first place was a thumbs up to this woofer for all the guys looking at buying something along the lines of a 12" - yeah its good, impressed the hell outta me. each to there own i guess, its put a damn big smile on my face thats for sure.

easiest way to describe a Type X is "loud SQ"
sure, there are louder subs, and more SQ oriented subs out there, but for the money its a very good compromise between the 2

lol yeah I understand that, I know those townsville boys have a lot of trouble getting there hands on decent gear.
Pre fab boxes are not great, my sub is recommended for a 1cuft box but it sounds much better in 1.3-1.5cuft. I think the shop just gave you the box because thats what Alpine recommend rather than what is best. I guess the main thing is to Audition of course.

put the type x in a proper enclosure designed for it and it will sound even better again, its the same with any alpine sub...
