View Full Version : changing the brake pads and most likely spark plugs

is there anything i should know such as tricks to getting inlet manifold off should i reuse the gasket, tricks on changing the pads such and such i will also be doing the oil and most likely radiator at the same time

i just put barrys gaskets in today, ( i recument you get some + the fuel rail kit), its easy just take your time and yes you can re use the gaskets its there no broken.

Toocky... You won't need to take inlet manifold off with a 3L, you'll be able to reach behind it with a wrench to do the plugs easily.
Brake pads are simple, wheel off, top caliper bolt (IIRC) off, swing caliper down and use a block of wood + G clamp to compress caliper thingos, put pads on, swing up and bolt on :D

cheers luke will be doin it in a week or 2 one of the glassy's i work with is a app mechanic so hes gonna get everything for me for cost and lend me his tools

Toocky... You won't need to take inlet manifold off with a 3L, you'll be able to reach behind it with a wrench to do the plugs easily.

dont have to use a block a wood if your desperate just use the old pads, thats how i did mine with great success.

Sure, if you want the brake pistons to pop out of their holders :nuts:

yeah pushing the brake pedal causes the piston to push out you need a g clamp or something similar and you want to push it in so you can fit the new thicker pad easily :nuts:

you can reach around but you will still need to take the manifold off you cant pull the leads out with it on trust me i tried 3rd gen BTW not sure about 2nd gen

In who's imagination is this? The rear plugs on the 6g74 s4 are under the manifold. This is the 3rd gen section remember.
I would also ensure that you get your rotors machined as well, not worth new pads on old rotor surface.
