Who wants to join me in cursing that bloody heat shield next to the block drain plug on a TP. What a ridiculous positioning of bolts. Has any one got any suggestions to avoid the problem in the future??? I've got it all apart and will use some other type of mounting for the shield when I put it back together.

Yeah these are a bugger, I have always just lived with them

The sheild is important to protect the oil sender.

Yeah, I'm going to keep it in the same position, just change the way its mounted, so I can get to the drain plug easily. I found that the drain plug was the same size as a standard brass garden hose fitting I had, so I removed the plug, and quickly screwed the hose fitting in with a length of hose attached, and drained the coolant straight into a bucket. Worked a treat, but its not possible with the heat shield in the way.
