hey guys done a quick search and found not very much at all. what i want to know is how hard will it be to fit evo 4 front shocks to my magna. my mechanic has two sets one set looks fairly ordinary the others look more chunky but are both sourced off an evo 4. if this is do able any info and pics would be awsome.

cheers mont

My uneducated guess would be that it is very difficult to do. It's also a matter of why you want them.

Shocks/struts are load bearing items and are more or less designed specifically a car. Even if you could get them fitted somehow, you'd really want to revise the dampers and springs because the masses are so different. Also you'll have 2 completely different suspension setups (front and back) which aren't in tune with each other and could have you sliding off the road in no time.

If you want them just because they're 'evo', then knock yourself out. If you want them for razor sharp handling and the ability to dial your car into the way you want it to drive, then perhaps look a full set of coil overs.

thanks for your input ill discuss this with my mechanic. my standard shocks need replacing some time soon and my mechanic is selling the evo shocks fairly cheap as they are sitting around doing nothing

magna shockers are cheap and effective. why the hell would you want to fit evo 4 ones....

evos are alot lighter than a magna and would handle absolutely craptastically (if you actually managed to fit them).

I'd suggest getting KYB replacements then, they're firmer than standard but a more controlled firm rather than jarring....or you could go Monroe GT if you want to go firmer still. You could even get kings lowered springs as well while your at it, as it will save you in labour costs if your planning to do it later.

the companies that make evo shocks but not for magna will be able to sell you inserts to go into normal macpherson struts to a specific weight rating. I researched this for my 20yo fwd corolla and was surprised to find I can get $8000 fully adjustable rally spec bilstein coilover inserts into my standard kybs. Wouldnt hurt to research this a bit.

short answer will not fit due to lower control arm bolt pattern, the top strut plates different height wise, if you looking for handling KYB for a sealed cheaper unit (i have these love em) or koni inserts if you are willing to fork out more dough, and the kybs are adjustable.

Just because its an EVO part doesn't mean its better than the magna item.

Shocks are suited to a cars specific weight, width, geometry and a lot of other things.

If you have a free set of evo struts, and your magna ones are flogged out, yeah go for it. A new set of struts to suit your car will be much better though.
