hi all

My TJ when had it for the first year always got 550km out of 55l and on highway even better. The last year its been getting 500km out of 59l Been ignoring it for a while. Ive got a k and n panal ive cleaned it a couple times then i unplugged and recconected my mas sensor. Then my last couple of tanks my fuel econamy been normal again 550km out of 55l. But one time i cleaned my panal filter it didnt dry properly and was leaking out the bottom little drops. I was thinking can the spray coated stuff u put on the filter damage the mas sensor if they become in contact.? Ive taken the 02 sensor out and it looked very clean and i reset the battery when my fuel econamy was bad this didnt make a difference.

those mas sencers are verry sensative any oil or dirt build up can give verry in accurate readings to the ecu. make sure your panel is verry clean and dry before replacing. not sure about our magna's but the old vl commo with the rb30 engin used to heat up the mas sensor wire to something like 1000 deg every time you shut the engin off. thus burning any impuritys.

hope this helps!

TJ's use a Karman Vortex sensor which is pretty immune to this sort of thing (they use ultrasonics or something IIRC).

The RB30 uses a hot wire sensor, these work by measuring the voltage required to keep a constant current across the 'hot wire' which is cooled by the airflow. Since a coating of anything on this extremely thin wire would cause issues and wildly innacurate readings, they heat the wire red hot to burn the crap off. (not 1000 degrees).

So your saying that my mas still should be fine?

Hi, sorry arent they called MAF sensors?

So does that mean the map sensor will be affected if the k and n oil gets on it or not.?

No, the MAF for the magna does not use a hotwire sensor.

Read the thread before you ask two questions one after another that are exactly the same :nuts: See here answer already provided;

K. Is the map sensor the same in the TH model as the TJ?

It's not a MAP sensor, MAP is Manifold Air Pressure, just a little black box that measures vacuum/boost in the plenum/intake.

MAF is a Mass Air Flow sensor (there are a few different kinds), which measures the amount of air passing through the intake - which is what Magna's run.

K. well u tell me witch of the 3 differnt types of numbers on the maf sesnor is the part number.?

The big black ones, I'd go to my car to give you an example of the numbers but I dont have it at the moment
