Hey guys, a while ago I lowered my car (Lovell Superlows), and added 20inch rims. The rims are smaller than the stock rolling diamter of my car (TJ Sports, 215/60 R16 stock). All the time car has been on 20s, no issues with rubing etc
Today, I threw my stock 16s back on, in preparation of the drags tomorrow night. I now have some weird issues in the back. First issue, is there seems to be some sort of thump/tick noise when im driving. Slower tick when im going slow, and as I speed up, the tick speed increases. Never happened before. I thought it may be rubbing somewhere, but, it dosnt feel like it (checked with hand), however, ill get under the car tomorrow and have a better look.
The second problem is more weird. When I slow to an almost complete stop, the rear brakes make a strange squeel, sounds almost like metal to metal. Keep in mind that this morning the car was fine, but once throwing my 16s back on, the rear brakes have issues :S.

Maybe our brakes are low.. might of only just started to get noisey.. take a look at them..:)
With your 20s u said they are smaller diameter than 16s.. so 20 dont rub. but when you put your 16s on they do.. because they have a bigger rolling diameter. bigger wheel..

Ye, will look at them in the morning. Seems odd the brakes happened all of a sudden, perhaps the 20s stoped the noise from escaping, hahaha.
As for rubbing, well, I dont think thats it. Car is only on Superlows, not many people have had issues with stock rims. The noise is more of a thumpish tick, rather than a rubing noise

From the rear you recon..??
If so check the tops of the wheel arces on the inside, top of tyre..
Thats the first place mine hits once i dropped it on 20s.. was ok on the superlows.. its when i went lower it started.. :)
i look at it as i cant get any lower..:P i run over a pebble and every wheel scrubbs..:) its sick..:)

100% is the rear, front seems fine.
I had a feeling it might be the inside top of the tyre, but, its very hard to see in the dark. I suppose that 100kg of stero gear, and original shocks may mean the car is sitting a little lower than just superlows, lol.
The rear arch sits on the tyre pretty much. Visually, not physically.

Is it always hitting or only with big bumps..?

Pretty much level with it. I dont have the biggest hands and I still cant get my hand fully in there.
Noise is always there. Flat surface, slow speed, tick, tick tick
Ok so theres a rubbing issue on something with the stocks on the rear, but no issue on the 20's? I presume you want stockies on so you don't shred the expensive tyres yeah, but we're talking about a FWD car. Put the stockies on the front, and leave the 20's on the rear? Shouldn't that work? lol

Yes, it will, lol.
Look odd aswell, think it might be legal however :)
Stockies back on for two reasons, 1, as you said, so I dont kill the expensive tyres at the drags.
and 2. Because there lighter, = faster down the quarter :)
Interested to see how they go once I pull out the Subbox, amps and false floor. Might just solve the problem (fingers crossed)

Yeah its deosnt sound like wheel hitting cause its to low.. mine are nearly 2 inch under and only just hit with weight and bumps..
You sure its not a brake issue.. could be a disc rubbing.. id look at them first.. yo should be able to see the discs. metal on metal is obvious when u look..

Brake issue would make more sense. Ticking, squeling. Kinda fits.
hmm, damm cars. Watch it be something very simple that I F'd up somehow.

Check the tyres there may be a bulge in one of them. Try them on the front instead and see if the problem shifts.

You could check to see if you have bumped the disk guard into the disk. i did that once....

Ok, problem solved a few days ago.
Something got stuck between the hub, and the actuall rim, meaning the rim didnt sit perfect flat where it should of. Strange but, as all the wheel nuts tightened up, and felt fine.
This caused the pad to not make full contact with the disc, which caused the brake noise, and the nuts in the axle caused the ticking noise.
Always good to double, and triple check everything you do :D
