View Full Version : Jap Diamante: anything of interest?

The other week one of the guys at work was saying he knows someone in Japan who rummages through wreckers over there, and could probably send stuff over; so, what kind of stuff should I see if he can dig up?

There's the obvious big stuff, like the series 1 & 2 front bumpers, the DOHC, paras & grille (same as KS, mine are actually Jap)... what about the smaller interior stuff? eg., do they have the chrome/silver interior door handles? Fancy switches? Sat-Nav (think I recall this, though it wouldn't be of much use would it?)

Discuss.

I have a JDM Diamante sales brochure at home... Interesting to look at and compare differences between the JDM models and the ADM ones.

Diamantes had chrome interior door handles.

I don't remember there being a wagon advertised in the book, plus I've never seen pictures of them anywhere else..

Not sure where I'm recalling that from, could be wrong.

every wagon of that model iss based on the magna wagon made here in aus. i'm pretty sure of that. There's an ad or video which shows the magna wagon with "exported" or "proudly australian" written underneath. might actually be the goodbye video that Mitsu showed at the 380 unveiling.

EDIT-i'd be extremely interested in those rear door pods...

I think it is, it's on YouTube and has a scene of a truck driving through a small town, a Second Gen Magna/Diamante Wagon on the side with "Made in Australia" under it.

Love the two tone interior and leather seats...

Yes they were made in Aus complete with climate control, cup holder, digi clock etc etc, all the stuff we did not get and all the stuff imported to aus for these cars that we still can not buy in the parts departments:nuts:

I'm not really thinking I'll be able to get anything big (if I can get anything at all), I'd imagine it would cost a bit in shipping, but might be worth investigating to see just how much they can pick the stuff up for over there.

Just search for "Mitsubishi Magna", was the first hit for me. It's a really short clip around 1:42. I have a feeling it's just an ad clipping though.

That video alone makes me proud to be a Magna driver. :)

I wonder how much it would cost you guys to pool together and bring a crate/container of parts over? Then split them out once in Aus.
Maybe talk to a couple of Import Wreckers - they bring parts, cars and half cuts over all the time.
Could be too much to organise or cost too much - not sure. :doubt:

These are all good ideas, but when the time comes, nobody wants to pay for things like that... Trust me :doubt:

Best bet is to find import wreckers and just post up the details, that way we can get the parts as we need them rather than buying in bulk and probably not selling them anyway.

That said, if we did get a crate of Diamante stuff i'd probably be interested... lol

Yeah cup holders are a must. I couldn't imagine life without them.
They fit nearly anything from lipton ice teas to large mcdonalds cokes. The only ones that don't are the gatorade or powerade bottles.

You serious dude oh man major bummage.

Umm will it not fit because of the actual unit itself does not allow for the cupholders or is it just the external fascia thing is different?

I think it's the fascia. It could also be the unit because of the way/posistion of the screws. I was looking at an elite in the wreckkers the other day, it seems to me that their climate control screws are different in some way.

EDIT- also, the black plastic front on the cupholders will cover the top of the dials and will stop your dial from turning. basically its the same size as what's in the elite.

yeah i need to suss it out a bit more, would love to have them but in the end they are just *** cupholders:P

dimi108

It'll only fit the climate control because the unit facia has the section above it to slot the cup holders in. So if you put the climate control unit it, you'll be fine.

Ahhhh
Question always remains to me though;

Is it worth taking out the WHOLE DASH just to fit climate control and cupholders?
Like i got $10 clip on ones which *** rule so yeah bit easier then doing a conversion atm.
I'm sick of attempting conversions of any kind right now :P

i'd suggest one of those auto-barn DIN pockets with 3CD holder and cuphold3ers, but you dount have a din hole to put it in. lol. this is what I'm doing.

why does the cc unit need to be mounted under the dash. Could the wiring not be extended for the unit.

Nah, it's definitely the wiring for the CC unit... Then you got the loom running to three electrical solenoids to operate the heater boxes, two sensors (one in the dash, one in the roof) the CC fascia, and the aircon electrical controls. I had all the **** I needed to do it but I just couldn't be bothered in the end.

I don't quite get what you mean by extended? It's probably as easy to mount it to stock mount points than it is to extend and mount somewhere else...

just mount it like you would an amp under a seat. Much easier than taking the dash out. I dont even know how to take my dash out.

I didn't have to take my dash out when I mounted the computer and solenoid actuators...

It was a tight fit getting my hands in there to fit it but I didn't have to pull the dash out... Some people have the idea of changing heater boxes, however I don't know why, the only change I can see is that the actuators are screwed to the CC equipped heater boxes, and can be transplanted easily.

when i had my second gen i was going to do the climate control conversion you need the heater boxes out of a verada/elite, to do this. there is an extra plug/loom that goes into the control panel thing (that part controls the fan speeds).

btw, i have most of the parts for the conversion, throw me a pm/offer if any of you guys are after it
