Hey guys, last night when I got home I pushed the button to put my passenger window and there was this weird thunk noise followed by a whirring/grinding. I had to actually pull the window up by hand to shut up the car last night. Now pushing the button just results in a sort of whirring sound.

Any idea what could have happened? The only thing I can think of is someone has tried to (unsuccessfully) force the window down while I was at uni. I'm going to take the door trim off tomorrow, but figured I might ask here as well. Cheers!

Sounds like the electric window regulator is stuffed. The same thing happened twice to my previous car, a Ford Futura. Those things are not cheap - 2nd hand or brand new!

Apparently it's a common problem. My passenger side motor died on me. I grabbed another one from the wreckers for $130.

Common indeed...

Happened to my drivers door... Same clunk sound.

There is a plastic attachment that snaps, and the cable unravells.

Apparently, the replacement from Mitsu is an updated system. So you can try the wreckers, and risk it happening again - or pay a little more and get the newer system.

Well I feel a bit better knowing it's not just my car, but damn! I'm just glad I was able to pull it closed, especially since it started raining last night lol

Will get to the wreckers when I get time (possibly Thursday) and see what I can scout.

When u take off the door skin... you'll see the little finicky piece of plastic (Which is now broken) holding the pressure of the whole system. It's a stupid design.

Wow $130?
Paid $40 for mine from the wreckers just gotta search around.
Might have something to do with it being a 2nd gen though...

Spot on, that bit was broken, and the pulley wire has snapped. Just finished putting the trim back on. Fortunately whatever locks the window in the "up" position is still working, so someone can't just come along and push it down easily.

When I do get hold of a replacement how the hell do I install it? how do you get in there properly?
