Hiyu all

Im thinking about changing the Grill on this car:

www.aussiemagna.com/forums/showthread.php?t=57098

obviously is it a series one........i want to get rid of it and fit something like a GT or VRX grill in it

can anyone tell me if this would be a straight swap?......

ffs don't mesh your grille... Looks tacky and out of place on the (relatively) classy 380 front.

What's wrong with the grille on the car at the moment? If it's the one in the pics you linked to then I don't see why you want to change it, looks nice as it is.

bumpers and grills are a slightly different shape dude.. (LX as opposed to VRX/GT)

if you want a VRX/GT grill u will need the VRX/GT bumper..

VRX/GT grills ahev a point on the bottom part of them in the middle where as the LX is flat if you know what i mean..

like this:

i thought it will look good with the chrome strip at the bottom and dark mesh but like ringa//art says it probably wont fit :(

I say keep that grille! That's the same design as mine, but mine doesn't have the 3 chromed row edges; its all-black instead (which maybe suits a black car anyway), except for the full length strip under the grille which is the same for both of us.

im now thinking of changing it to exactly what you have Grubco.....

i think the current design with the three chrome strips is just too much chrome......i think having the 3 bars blackened out will be the next best thing.......and i still dont end up with a mesh grill!

exactly what model does the grill you have come out on?......

I couldn't tell from the pic, does the horizontal grill have the chroming all the way back, or just 5mm back?
I've been toying with the idea myself, mine are comepletely black except the lower lip, but I did notice that the black is painted/coated on chrome (er slightly chipped), and I want the three stripes to reveal 5 mm of their chromliness.
Is there a product/method to make this happen?

Guys,

Anything can be done.

Just find a panel shop who is willing to experiment a little.

When I did my front end the whole crew in the shop got involved - 2 experienced painters and 3 apprentices and the manager.

Just go in with an idea or two and be willing to listen to a few opinions, sift out the ones you like and then go for it. You've got nothing to lose as far as the 380 goes :D Most changes will enhance it.

At first thought i was always going to put a Platium grill on mine but have decided to stay with the original, Black with chrome bottom.

As Knotched says anything is possible . Look at it, Modify it , and if you hate it change it back

It will probably be more cost effective to chance the whole bumper assy. The hole for the mesh grille is totally different on the VRX than the std one and the actual bar has a different shape as well. take note of the lower mouth and holes for the driving lights. Totally different. I would just price the whole lot and replace the old one with factory VRX stuff.

I think only the base model had the blacked out grille bars; the fancier models have the the chromed grilles ones like yours.
Advantage of black car is that the poverty pack black grilles, black mirrors, black door strips, and rear black seals all blend in. :)
As you said, too much chrome is not a good thing (though just the grille would be okay). Anyway, I wouldn't change the grille to VRX, Platinum, etc, spec as then the other features on your car (ie standard bumper) won't match the model you're imitating. Up to you though...

but it will help blend the GT headlights that are going into it!

in just a little concerned that too much chrome on the grill will stand out too much against a grey pearlesant colour and tinted headlights....

dunno....will think about it a bit more.....was hoping to have everything done to it at the same time......

why not paint the whole current grill black and just have the chrome diamonds?

just a thought..

or you could even leave the chrome strip at the bottom because it will then go with the chrome band on the rear of the boot.. one either end sort of thing..

the latter is what im thinking, as you said, just leaving the bottom section chrome, with the chrome diamond, rest of it black......

sounds more and more the go for the short to mid term solution
