hey guys heres my first major airbrush job on a wreckers bonnet for a tj,
just something simple and subtle in pearls, so looks different from every angle, unfortunatly cant see the gems and sparkly stuff in it from this camera which are really crazy when u see it in person in the sun. will take more pics when its on the car.

please respect my privacy and dont go through and post pictures from my myspace ion here (like last time), this is just to get high resolution large pics for you to see.

not everyones cup of tea, but a nice image i thought anyhow.
lemme know what u think.

Not really into those weird pictures but I must say looks pretty impressive and cool. Looks awesome with the black too, I don't think that would have worked with any colour except black. :P

thanks so much for your feedback, every comment is appreciated!
didnt consider it an appealing image to everyone, but im glad you appreciate the handy work, pearls are tricky to get bright in the end i was pleased it was more subtle ;). i will see how i go with commissions for those who would like work done, ive just got a permanent part time job teaching art, so i will see if i can manage.

Like most who've posted before me.
WOW!
Cass, that's absolutely fantastic work. Your amazing us with your talent!
Please post up some pics with it on your VRX. It'd be great to see the overall effect.

For the uninformed (like me), (not that I could do anything like this - wouldn't even try, but just curious).
I guess you start with a bonnet that's normally painted.
But do you have to prepare it in anyway or just start airbrushing?
Also, do you then have to cover the whole bonnet & image with a clear or something?

Puck,
i was going to do it all myself in acrylic, but thought i want something that will last, as acrylic is high maintanence and not as hard wearing.
so it was a red bonnet from the wreckers,
i got a professional to spray it black, and he also put one coat of clear on for me to protect the surface, then...i rubbed the clear a bit with 1500 and 2000 to make a perfectly smooth and adhesive surface.
then i did my airbrushing design on it in his base coat paints that he sold me, (for much cheaper)
then i sent it back to him to get it cleared over.
the guy however was a bit of a joke it took him 4 weeks just to get it painted in black, and as he was the boss didnt even bother to go into work most days. however he only charged me 300 for all that, which is cheaper than most.

in the end he got it done then i sent it back for clearing, and his mate did it for me.
im thinking next time i will do it all myself in acrylic perhaps as my tiger fuel tank lid still looks ace, and its cheaper that way. will post up some pics of it on car tomorrow. thanks again peoples. ;)

You are one very talented person Cass. Tell me, did painting on the image across the ridges of the 'beak' present any problems?

Yeh if you look at the pic and the profile pic next to it they look almost the same. I even saw the aftermarket wheels, and obviously not giving it a good look, I thought they were the same and must be the same car. And the fact that you are both female which is the minority on this forum, well I put two and two together like most people would... or maybe its just me

hey there just wondering how much it cost ya to paint that bonnet ? and my girl thinks its an awsome picture and now wants one lol

CASS-VRXTJ
09-05-2008, 01:35 PM
alot, i would have been better off get a pro to do it as i did it then non- economical way lol

i didnt want to wreck my original bonnet so bought a second hand tj bonnet (which are a dime a dozen) from a wreckers,
that cost me 300 bucks alone...
then to get it painted black (as it was a red bonnet) and clear coated at the end of my design 200 dollars, or was it 300... cant remember
and to buy the paints at least 150 bucks.

but, then theres the satisfaction of the fact i did it myself, priceless ;) lol

if you have some experince in spray painting ud be better of doing it in acrylic, to save money and do the clear coating yourself. I just didnt want acrylic paints, as they arent always as tough, (chip easily) and wanted a professional finish to the clear coat.

i was lucky i bought some of the paint from the spray painter out of his garage to put in small tins, to buy house of colour etc paints are really expensive.

any wayz awsome job i will be attempting this myself also i have painting experience with acrylic, enamals and 2pac i think i will be using 2pac as its harder wont chip too easy its just putting the design down first wil slow me down getting that right
