Hey all, my dads TP is having a little problem.
between 80-100kp/h it top gear with overdrive on shes been misfiring, but if you drop her down a gear and give it some it stops.
he has done a full service on it (air filter, oil filter, oil change, fuel filters, plugs and leads) but nothing has helped, he also put a injector cleaner through it.
does anybody know what could be causing this or what he can do to fix it.
by the way its EFI.
thanks all

do you mean it's mis firing all the time and losing power when its in 4th doing 80-100, or only when you apply / re-apply the acc pedal?

after checking the dissy rotor plugs and leads TPS
next check to do will be the air flow meter , o2 sensor,
how many ks has the motor down now

a bottle of injector cleaner has little to no effect.
May be cap and button but usually you will have a misfire when cold as well.
Low revs, high load such as top gear will give to me may be blocked injectors, poor fuel flow/pressure.
Get the injectors out, clean them properly ultrasonicaly and also check the strainers in the top of each injector. Also check you r ignition coil as this can cause similar, especially when hot

we have found the dissy pins and plugs a bit of a problem with vibration
check the clip that holds in the dissy plug
and the pins in the Edit dissy for corrosion
one night racq used rachy straps to hold big 4 cyls dissy wiring in place
he later replaced the dissy

Hope that carby corrosion is not an issue given that it is an EFI :)

another thing to check is the dist shaft, these wear the brass bushings and the shaft will then cause the timing to jump around a lot. The ECU will set the base advance however can not cope with a jumping refrence point

beast i had a misfire like u all the time and turned out to be the dizzy after a new one of these it went away.
A friend tp had a misfire but would only happen when he backed off the accel pedal. his problem was a split injector o-ring cos under load it would seal but when backing off it would leak making the miss fire.
as long as the easy things are fine like leads plugs dizzy cap and rotor. cos the misfire is constant id be leaning more towards the dizzy/dizzy plug or worst case a blocked injectoer like madmagna said but i highly doubt that it's block. you could rule out a blocked injector by swapping ur injectors with a friends set (out of a tp if you can, yellow tops) that way ur not paying 200 for an ultrasonic clean to find out there not blocked.
but that just what id do.
