View Full Version : Someone just smashed my window
I am quite peeved right now!!! Got back to the car at Sydenham station after having a nice meal only to find some pikey has smashed my passenger window and tipped the car upside down looking for stuff!!!!
Smashed window, and big scratches all over the front door. AAMI told me i have a 550 dollar excess on this
How much is replacement glass likely to cost for a TJ Magna front passenger?

that sucks, sorry to hear mate :(
yeah i know how you feel i've had my window smashed too
only left a little scratch behind so that was ok
insurance was no help to me either i ended up having to fork out the money myself
cost me $355 bucks to replace the window, insurance excess was $350 and they were like we'll give you 5 bucks back if you go through with the claim, ummmm no thanks im right
but yeah maybe try a wreaker? or ring around a couple of window shops
yeah the glass will be less than the excess, but the scratches and **** will take me way over the excess. They are really bad. Going to scope the area tomorrow and see if there are any security cameras for the cops to look at

Isn't it sad that we can't leave our cars without having to worry about them getting damaged, burgled or stolen. So sad that that's the world we live in...
Good luck with it mate, hope you get it fixed soon.

very sad to hear that man. worse is the fact that your car is black, scratches show up 10x more.
Re your above comment, in all honesty, don't even bother. We had the same thing happen to our LTD about four years ago at dandenong station (melbourners will know it's a stupid idea to leave a car there). there WERE video cameras. We went straight to the police and to this day we havent heard anything. My sisters oakley sunglasses about $150 were stolen along with dads spanner set worth about $200.
The cops dont really care unless someones speeding or dying. sad fact.

It not that they dont care, its that their isn't enough of them to do it.
You are comparing a Death to a Scratch and broken Glass?
Just take a minute to think about that.
No one likes having their property wrecked/stolen/destroyed its a pain in the ass, but lets hope they eventually do get caught.

This actually happened to my stepmum recently. Some low-life broke into her car at night and pinched a bunch of stuff (Car Laptop power adapter, GPS, few other things). Fortunately they caught him and she got most of it back.
Lucky she has a company car, so none of the repairs were on her.

IF IT WAS A POLICE CAR
1.the ppl would be caught by now
2.would have a fine bigger then the excess
3.they would also have a court apperance to decide legal penalty

Their simply isn't enough of them to care about this as I said above, get over it or go talk to your government.. which will get you no where also.
Nothing stopping the regular person making enquiry's into stolen goods or doing some investigation work.
We have a policing system in all states that cannot take the demand, this is why small incidents are often not reported or dealt with 5+ hours later. New York is an example of where they have more police and do deal with the small problems faster which actually leads to a smaller amount of bigger offence's.
But thats the U.S not here

Sorry to hear mate, know what it feels like. From experience the cops will not do anything so I wouldn't bother. When some human trash damaged my car at Gosford station, I gave the police all of the CCTV numbers in the vincinity to try and help and they did nothing. I would source a replacement window from a wreckers. I see you are in NSW and if anywhere near EWT wreckers at Tuggerah you could take your pick as they had about 8 or so 3rd gens there at the moment (was there today). Perhaps try and find someone to sand back and respray your door cash in hand. Being black might make it easier to blend? Might get away with it cheaper than paying an excess. Oh, and try not to park there in the future.:)

The Real pain in the **** is AAMI............ Piss them off outta there for starters RIP OFF DOGS they are, Wreckers u will pay from 55 for a manual wind one upto 150 for electric i can see the diff but they do for sum reason:shock: . Depends on how bad those scraches are they may buff out with a buffer or wet and dry with 2000 fine grit sand paper (use water) then buff. I do this sumtimes at work and it works a real treat, Just did a BLACK golf looks like it never had been outside in it life. Best of luck
appreciate the comments guys, thanks. Deffo going thru the insurance, i have protected NCB, and the excess is smaller than a replacement window. I checked the damage today, the scratches are all the way down to the skin, so no chance of buffing them out. Also found scratching all over the wingmirror where they have been trying to rip the window out. The factory tint did a great job of keeping the glass all in one piece
Here it is, on one piece on the floor, morning after.

Re: Russian.
My aunt once had a drifter siting on her window sill with a knife in hand.she was told by the police to call when the drifter got inside. There would be more police looking after theft and property damage if they werent all driving around raising revenue.this is one point i will never change my mind on mate,no matter what anyone says.as ive said before, theres alot more going on than people speeding in this country.

Yes there is alot of pressure on them to raise revenue, but why do you think so many of them have to quit there jobs and go on stress leave? There simply isn't enough of them, the government lacks the numbers and brains.
Some issues:
Working shifts (usually 12hrs plus+)
Lack of equipment
Lack of pay
Lack of numbers (especially at night)
Pressure on revenue
Increased Drug problems
Increased alcohol problems
Speeding/Car infringements
Lack of criminal prosecuting and magistrate punishments
You cannot blame them for the system that is letting them down, look at the gangland war in melbourne for example. Not until about 18 murders later did the top command and Government in particular give them all the money and resources they needed. So you honestly think they care about a stolen cd player? a broken window? theres no time and more important URGENT crime to attend to.
Not until you are in there shoes will you understand, even Inspectors have complained about numbers particulary in Victoria, then they get repramanded for the comments. In my area they have decreased whilst the crime rate has gone up, make sense? No.
Of course there are particular instances when they should be there asap, but as said above there isnt enough of them to keep up with demand. Until numbers reach 20,000 which is only currently 11,500 for VIC isnt enough.
The estimated resident population of Victoria at June 2005 was 5,022,000. This represented an increase of 59,700 people since June 2004 and an annual growth rate of 1.2%.
11,500 for 5,022,000
Think about it!!!! enough said!
and what 40 recruits X 3 or 4 for 60,000
The numbers are **** good day!

Because at the ripe age of 18, you are so well informed as to the functions of the Police, you therefore will be able to keep that misinformed opinion and not have to worry about changing that.
Which, by the way, can you please tell me the number of Highway Patrol Police in your state? Then compare that back to the number of Police there are in total. Showing us your extensive knowledge of the ratio of Police, and how over represented the highway Patrol is as a section of the Police.
I know the figures for New South Wales, you would all be shocked!!
Oh, and I agree with everything that Russian posted.

Nice point, however.
2. & 3. are the same, just worded different.
and if that relates to a Police car, imagine if it was a Police 4wd, or one of the Police bus? or what about our Water Cannon Truck?
:bowrofl: :bowrofl:
To be fair, the Police Assistance Line was most helpful indeed. The lady grabbed all sorts of info that was then relayed to my local police station. Gave them a call the next day and the cops were going to head down to the scene some point on saturday and check for cameras and stuff.
Whether this happened is another thing, but i believe there is not much else the cops can do with no footage/evidence from the crime. However, i would like to say that there is an awful lot of crime around sydenham/marrickville, and i very rarely feel safe even with the fairly substantial police presence in the area. All the carry on about police being only revenue raisers might be true for other states, but being in QLD in my 6 years of driving I have only been pulled over twice, and only one of those times was I fined (the other was for breath test where I was only slightly over the limit and they told me to sleep in my car for an hour or so and then keep going) I have always had very good response times from QLD Police when I have needed them, and only a few weeks ago there was a fight across the road where someone was screaming about a knife being involved and my housemate called the police and by the time I walked down the bottom of the driveway to have a look, there were 2 police cars with lights on but no siren screaming down the road, all within 3 - 5 minutes of the call followed by another 3 cars and dog squad following from another station within a minute or two behind them.
NSW however are awful. I had a knife put to my throat on a train and had my wallet and phone stolen and I went to the police and told them there was CCTV on the train and station where they got off and still they didn't do a thing. Even worse was I saw one of them the next day at the same station and still the police did nothing.
All in all if you need police help, be in QLD
