Possibly fuel issue? Had something similar in my sigma, had a carby car, so if yours is carby id maybe start there?

Yeah mines doing that a little... Splutters when hitting a certain RPM, If i hit it hard it splutters alot and dies... Turn the car off for a few minutes then its got huge power back in it... Same problem occurs like once or twice a week, Really should take it to a mechanic :P

Agreed, check all your leads and dizzy cap for wear and tear. But you usually dont get a power surge after a miss fire. I'd be putting my money on fuel related issues. Check fuel filter and get carby checked out (that is if its caburetted car). Like I said in previous post, had pretty much identical thing happen to me in my sikma. I think the problem was something to do with the incorrect jets fitted...but I was running a 465cfm on an 2.6 :D

Once upon a time a similar issue happened to a friend. He was low on oil and it was the resistence from lack of oil causing the problem - ouch.
On the off chance, check the oil level :)

Sounds auto transmission related to me. Check your auto fluid level/condition. Does it only do it while the car's cold?
Consider having it serviced if it hasnt been done in a while.

The car is EFI, V6.
I think it could be the fuel or the air supply, the fuel filter is getting pretty old so I might have to look into that.
The transmission seems to run fine, fluid is red etc. However if only happens when the car is cold, and it only happens as I first move the car, it doesn;t happen all the time.

had the same problem with mine, clean the injectors, new plugs leads, dizzy, air filter and was still doing it. turned out to be the fuel filter. it was the original one from new, (170000k's old) it didn't do it again after that

Yeah I got a fuel filter here but I (and both the mechanics in town) all had a go at stripping the nut on the fuel filter, so I am going to have to cut the fuel line to bring the thing out.
Can anyone see a problem with cutting the metal fuel line then using a bit of rubber fuel line and some clamps to join it back together.?

You know its one of those banjo (will edit with correct term after someone tells me it) nuts right? Ie two spanners turning in opposite directions. Otherwise you'll just twist the line.

yeah, we even used one of the pipe spanner things with the cut out, it was just on to tight.

If you cut the line you will have issues because then you can not put the filter back on. You will also have issues if you use a different filter as the pipe wil not be flared and the fuel hose can come off.
In all the years I have been doing Magna's I have never rounded a fuel line nut (touch wood)

The fuel filter is the correct replacement for my car.
I was going to cut the fuel line down a bit, lock the the filter in a vice then undo the line, screw it onto the new filter, then use a bit of fuel hose and two clamps to "repair" the cut.

No way that thing is coming off, I can see that it is corroded together, going to have to get a new bit of fuel line made up in the morning before work.

The new fuel filter has reduced the problem, but it hasn't solved it.... definatly a fuel supply problem...
Next on the list I might get the injectors cleaned, can anyone think of anything else?
