looks to be an Elite... but no display for the climate control.

I'd put my money that is actually a TN not a TP. check the vin number.

It has TN elite mags, and the climate control does not have a display like the TP elite did. it does however have TP seats...

Nah, its got climate and all, see roof lining picture shows temp sensor and LHS of control panel has temp settings <20 to 30 degrees, and fan switch has Off, Auto, then rest of fan settings.

The Chassis number has 6MMTP4 as it's starting identifier.

Well it has the power/economy mode switch for the transmission, so that confirms it is a TP. BCX7 is right about the mags though. They are from a TN. The TN mags are better looking anyway, so maybe the previous owner swapped them. Or it could be an SE or Executive that has been "eliteified". The only way to tell for sure is from the VIN number.

Somewhere on this forum there is an explanation of what each letter or digit in the VIN number means.

I agree, the mags are much nicer looking than the others that came with it also. I actually have 5 of the type on the car and another 5 15"x6" that look like bottle caps lol I have both sets here, but as I said earlier, the VIN starts with 6MMTP, so I figure it is definitely a TP. Will look into the VIN code if I can find it.
Cheers for the info though.

hehe wow, thast an interesting one... i reckon its a mixture on tn and a tp!! it has a tp console and as metioned with the power switch and also tp seats... BUT!! its got TN wheels, TN blue door trims/dash (i thought TP elites were all grey??)and a TN electric dash (TP is diff) also its a TN Elite colour, its rare to see a tp elite in the blue colour like that. Theres no pic of teh front coz that would give it away.... if it has a chrome grille the same sort of size as our white wagon but filled it, TN if it has two bar looking seperate grilles, TP.

My guess its a TN.

Heres a photo of my TN elite, same colour... thats a TN grille

Never thought of asking for that guard

The grill on the car and mags I have spare, are the same as in the image on the Sticky, "TN-TM info posts by Magna Buff. At the bottom of his first post on CV joints is an image of a sedan, well the grill is the same and the other mags are the same also.

I also have the build date as 11/89. Again as I stated, the VIN confirms this as a TP on both the compliance and the numbers stamped into the firewall, which coincidently do match lol

Yes, that blue is a very nice color, never been much on two tone colors, but this I like. Something else I noticed tonight, the interior lights are on a delay after you close the door, thats pretty cool for that age Aust car, well, there are a lot of things that are cool on this age car anyway.

"Theres no pic of the front? coz that would help give it away.... if it has a chrome grille the same sort of size as your white wagon in the photos but filled in, its a TN front...if it has two bar looking seperate grilles, TP."

oh, well i guess its a tp then hehe..

but im sure the things i said above are right... anyone verify??

not saying its not a tp... just thats its got more than just tn wheels :P

I tried using the search function for VIN codes, but got nothing conclusive  .
The complete VIN for this car is 6MMTP4X45KA025437, can anyone help.

Carcycle, it's not typing errors, the keyboard is dyslexic :D with my typing, I reckon I should sign up to be a member of DNA, the "National Dyslexic Association".

Weather OK for Tuesday, gonna go U Pull It north in the am now. WOOHOO car part hunting :)

Oh, how does the dash differ from TN to TP with digital and climate please??

Aside from the VIN I can tell you it is an elite TP everal ways.

The console is a dead give away, the door trims and blue dash is fine, I have just ripped the electrics from an TP elite with the same colour interior. I also has a TP the very same colour for a while, was an awsome car.

While some MAY have done an interior swap, from some one who is in the middle of doing just this (me) it is not an easy job and to be honest, unless you really love first gen magna's is simply not worth it. To the extent that even the engine bay wiring would ahve to be changed for the control units, relays and fuses for things like the old ETACS some x lines had as well as locking (relay is by the battery)

Is a nice looking car, if I were to go a TP again would have to be an elite wagon.

My TN Elite wagon had the same color blue over silver, great car for what she had been through.

You guys and gal all rock, I know I have flooded the forum with questions and the like, but you all came through and helped. For that I am grateful, especially the technical info that was supplied in my quest to stop the camshaft leak. I know it's not that new a car, but both my youngest daughters have them and they love their cars and the clear view they are afforded in this model. I have a TS SE wagon and they do not like the closed in feeling they get when they drive it. The latest one , the TP two tone, we bought for 200 dollars, mainly cause of the oil leak and the damaged front guard. Well after a milder day I trolled the U Pull It wreckers and come up with one guard, one dash mat, one radio and equaliser from an Elite and a seal for the camshaft for a total of $70-00. The guard is even blue to match, so I only got to paint some silver. Its got to be a winner.

Salute to you all,
