View Full Version : Fog Light Installation - 3rd gen

Ok, I've got the fog lights plus the factory indicator, light, fog light combo stalk. How hard a job is it to install these - what else do I need?

Is it the same as for no stalk, but just using the stalk as the switch? Or is the wiring already in the loom? 2 different service centres have given me opposite answers. 1 says the wiring is there from the stalk to the fuse box & the other says not. Who is correct?

Or alternatively how much should it cost for an auto elec to fit them?

Does anyone know? I just need to know do I wire up lights as discussed elsewhere here, except use the stalk as the switch?

i would assume (but dont quote me coz im not 100% sure on it)
that seeing as mitsu didnt change thier body / engine looms too much between the diff spec levels of thier magna's/veradas that the wiring should be there.

should be accomodating for the combination stalk install wise, but i think the foggies themselves will need wiring up too - i would imagine there would be a plug in the headlights loom (somewhere near the headlights themselves i would think) to allow you to 'plug in' and allow them to work.

Are you doind this on your TL, if so I'm interested in the final cost parts+fully installed once it's done so make sure you post up when you're all installed.

I've got the fog lights and indicator stalk with the fog switch, but have never gotten around to installing it. I want to use the original stalk, so the fog light indicator light on the dashboard shows up when its on. Lost of people have asked about this on here, but no one has ever given an answer.
Can you just swap over the indicator stalk without taking the steering wheel off?
Cheers,
Paul

im fairly sure u can, by removing the black plastic shroud around the colum (4 screws) there will be 2 screws on the right that hold the stalk in place. it will the slide out.

I am having trouble fitting fog lights from a KJ onto my TJ. Can anyone assist on how they go on?

There seems to be two holes on the top of the bracket around the fog lights.?

You my friend would be right, i took the plastic bit off yesterday to see why the heck my indicator buzzes like a bee, turns out i need to replace it. but yes u can remove it without taking off the steering wheel

:bump:

..still wondering about this. Anyone find out how to make this work yet?

I booked the car in, took time off work, waited around for 3 1/2 hrs today & when I return he's done nothing! Reckons he couldn't figure it out. He said something about needing a lighting module but he wasn't too sure & if I left the car with him for another full day he was sure he'd figure it out.

Figure it out? Please!!! As if I'm going to trust my car with someone that's going to figure it out by trial & error!  PLUS he left a nice small scratch in the paintwork of the front bar but denied all knowledge of it.

Alternatively, if anyone knows of a good, reliable, honest auto elec near the Central Coast that could do this job for me that'd be great, as I'll be there for a couple of weeks on holiday..:D

here yah go mate follow this you will be right.....

under the fuse box under the bonnet you will see 2 spots under the relay for fog lights......

run a wire into the relay from the parker wire under fuse box.

the other spot on relay runs to the green wire on the indicator stalk.

the brown wire on the stalk is ground....

then you have two spots under fog lamp fuse

run a wire into each slot these are your positve wires for the fog lamps..

then run earth wires from fog lamps to car body ground......

and wham you have fogs running the factory way.

cheers
joe.

you need magna brackets from a vrx or sports. the verada brackets will NOT fit a magna bumper.

bit of a threadmine, but attempted to run the wiring for my fog lights, and got a bit confused with what exactly needs to be done as per westside_t_s_d's post. How did you go with this Al?

I'll take some photos tomorrow to show exactly what wires etc i've got in my car and hopefully someone can point out on the photos what I need to do :)

Did you do the connections underneath the fuse box?? If so, how did you do it. I have had no luck trying to get access to underneath of the fuse box.

yea I did,

1. undo the two 10mm bolts holding the fuse box in
2. push fuse box towards the drivers side to free the little oval shaped knob thing thats holding it into the side of the body
3. lift it up, there should be a wire clipped onto the bottom of the fuse box, pull it off
4. there may be another clip holding the wiring down that runs in to the fuse box, pull it up so you can pull the box out further
5. undo the clips around the side of the fuse box that hold the bottom cover on
6. go nuts with your wiring!

then run earth wires from fog lamps to car body ground......

So do you splice into a ground wire or run an earth wire back to an earth lug?

Would 5amp earth wire be big enough? What did you use?

Wiring pathways.

Indicator switch to Relay/Fuse Box wire - Does this poke through the hole in the top left of the firewall on the drivers side then under all the gear on the drivers front qtr panel, across the top of the radiator an into the Relay box?

Relay box to Fog light wiring - Assume this all goes in front of radiator.

Did anyone protect the cabling? Or just cable tie to the existing harnesses.

Ohh yeah thread mining!

Just a quick question if anyone can answer. How are the wires terminated under the fuse box under the bonnet? The factory wires look to have crimped connections, so am I safe in guessing just a spade connector? I've read in other guides that people just shove the wires in there which to me could cause problems later on down the track.

Cheers

they are not a standard spade but are longer, so you would need to fabricate your own ar get some from a wreck.
There is a thread about this,

Cheers man. That was the thread I was chasing, search engine on here is the gay. If I could just get a gander of those spades, I'd be able to borrow some from work. We've got millions of different shapes and sizes.

yep, it would be great to be able to source the real thing, I just used an external fuse / relay for mine, rather than boge up spade connectors.
